Anyone else jealous of Rose's shooting?

It's not even just Rose, Westbrook is pretty lethal with his pull up. I said it earlier in the season when Rondo was dropping 14 assist per game, but he hasn't really developed all that much from last year to this year. I think he has it in him to better than all those other guys, but he keeps improving on his strengths instead of getting rid of weaknesses. Rondo needs to work on his scoring efficiency. He will never be the scorer Rose is, but he's already a better rebounder, playmaker, passer, and defender. Hell if he could just get his free throw percentage to 70-75% it would make him so much more efficient.

Shooting is overrated.  I'm much more jealous of the ability to find the balance between scoring and creating for others that CP3, Nash, D-Will and to a lesser extent Rose have but not Rondo.  When was the last time we've seen him really do both in a game?

For a guy who has the ball as much as he does, he shouldn't have to pick one or the other.  He needs to have that mindset that the other top PGs have in that they are constantly attacking, looking for their own shot, and then passing once the defender commits.  Defenders hardly ever commit to Rondo anymore, even on layups/fast break and it effects our offense.

I think Tommy described our offense perfectly when he called it "directing traffic for 20 seconds."  Rondo can't be standing around hoping guys will be able to get themselves open from a screen or whatnot.  Call it inconsistency, laziness, whatever, he just needs to get it together soon and remember his game (Chicago series 2009).

I agree, Rondo's lack of improvement when it seems as if he has all kinds of potential is frustrating.

Important to remember, however, that Rose was drafted #1 overall partly for his incredible potential and work ethic and Rondo was drafted late in the first, partly for a perceived lack of both of those things (perhaps not a lack of work ethic, but a lack of coachability).

In other words, it was kind of inevitable that Rose would one day surpass Rondo and become much better than him.  That's what you expect with a #1.  That Rondo was ever even All-Star level is remarkable given where he was drafted.  He has improved quite a bit in his time in the league, even if he hasn't turned into a superstar like many here hoped and even thought he would.

  When Rondo and Rose faced off in the playoffs two Rondo wasn't an all-star, he wasn't all-defense and he wasn't leading (or almost leading) the league in assists. To say he hasn't improved is ridiculous.

Rose is a big fan of the off-balance, long two pointer. He takes a lot of low percentage shots (just like LeBron and Kobe!) that find their way in from time to time. He takes far too many shots to get to his average.

It's hilarious that people are griping about Rondo's lack of improvement. Did you not watch the playoffs last year? The guy is one of the best defenders in the league and can take over games without even having the ball in his hands.

Derek Rose should win the MVP hands down this year. An amazing season.

Honestly, it's really not. I keep harping on this - but it's easy to pick out a huge game against a non-playoff team, when he only has two of those games out of five games. Overall, he's still shooting close to 40% for the month. He's an MVP candidate shooting around 44%? That's not very good. He's not top 10 in PER. Heck, he's not even the best point guard in the league. Chris Paul has a better TS%, PER, W/S per 48, better rebounding rate, more assists...but he plays on a team that started Sasha Pavlovic this year. He's getting overhyped because of the defensive system instilled by Thibs and a very underrated supporting cast.

Its pretty hard to argue against Rose for being MVP. His numbers are pretty solid across the board and he has really bloomed into an incredible leadership role for the first place Bulls. At this point I dont really see anyone else slipping in to win the award.

See, this is my problem. There is "fairly solid" and then there is MVP. Rose's numbers when compared to a. historical MVPs and b. 5-10 players playing right now.

It's hard for me to get behind a MVP candidate who is probably the 4th or 5th best player in the league, by any truly objective assessment.

That doesn't mean the improvement he's shown this year and what he's done for the Bulls isn't a remarkable accomplishment.  I just don't think he's MVP caliber.  If anybody is going to supplant LeBron as the MVP, I think it should be somebody who has a really legitimate challenge to him as the best player in the league.  Rose is very good, but he's not that good.

To be fair, I think it's very difficult for any point guard to be a great defender in today's league because the rules so heavily favor quick guards.  Because he's not really big for his position, Rondo has to defend by using his length and quickness to bother ball-handlers either from in front or behind, and also by tipping or intercepting errant passes.  He is successful at doing that more often than most point guards.

Winning awards doesn't necessarily show that you improved...especially when there's barely any competition for your spot.

As far as all defense team...Bruce bowen won...then retired. CP3 won...then got hurt. Rondo deserved it, but it doesn't necessarily mean that he improved if the players that used to win it, weren't competing for it any more.

As for the all star team...2008-J kidd and Chauncey were in in the east...then went west. 2009-AI, Mo williams, Devin Harris were in east..they went west. Add in injuries to Jameer nelson and CP3, and you can see that Rondos competition for the PG spot in the ASG was also thinned considerably.
