A wasted opportunity.
Could the other alternative be that he's just cooked, at least for this season? I'm assuming Doc sees him in practice every day, and doesn't think he's capable of contributing.
It could be ... but I would have liked to have seen him get enough court time to find out.
Shooters need playing time. You can't give them 4-5 minutes and expect them to produce (with any consistency). Especially not players who are used to more playing time and being able to play themselves into a rhythm.
I'm disappointed, too, but there were some rumbles out of NJ that he just wasn't good enough to be in their rotation. I found that hard to believe, and like most folks, chalked it up to personality issues. Could it be that Murphy's injuries have taken a greater toll than many anticipated?
I don't believe those reports either.
I do think the reason T.Murphy didn't play in NJ was talent related though. Not due to a decline in ability but because he was worse defensive player than Humphries + because NJ wanted to give Favors minutes which limited the opportunities for Murphy in NJ. I don't think he was ever an Avery Johnson type of player. Which is fine.
Normally speaking, those same limitations could easily see him pinned to the bench here in Boston
(which I'd be fine with) ... but considering how short-handed the team has been up front over the past few weeks ... I think he should have been in the team.
With the priority being learning the plays and developing some on-court chemistry/understanding with the rest of the team ... in case the team needs to call upon him during the playoffs.
Playoffs ... Whether it was because he earned that fourth big man slot (due to a strong performance with his playing time) or because the team was short-handed in the playoffs and had to play him out of necessity (injury prone big men).
