what does that comment mean? what "bodies buried"?

Quote
Someone who by virtue of holding a position of trust with an organization for a long period of time has come to know many of the secrets that others in more powerful positions would rather be kept secret knows where the bodies are buried. An implication is that the person knowing these secrets will use that knowledge to secure something of value for him- or herself.

So is he saying 'you guys have no leverage because I know what is really up'?

That's how I read. It seemed like an indirect and veiled threat...I could be wrong but that's what I took after reading that.

It's pretty obvious that many teams are in trouble because there are too many players making too much money that they don't deserve tied to some bad long contracts.

And that wouldn't be much of a problem, but these players take up cap space and they really limit to a great extent the ability of these teams to improve. If they don't improve, they don't play well. They don't play well, they don't sell tickets, and they don't make money. And it's very hard to get out of that hole.

We should know.

I really want something to restructure the NBA that gives more power to teams over players, I really do.

Rose just became my favorite non celtic player. That takes huge guts to get quoted in the article. Woj is on a mission to get the word out that the commish is a scumball. Where do I send the check is what I want to know.

I'm not so sure about that, I think the NBA owners have a serious expense problem for their organizations on the other side.

So they're trying to negotiate the costs downward as a whole. This is especially a big problem for the newer generation of owners who have bought in at a high premium and therefore desire higher performance.

Overall though the structure of the league has to be adjusted somehow. Because right now terrible teams almost always lose a ton of money, and even the great teams have to spend a ton to make a small profit. (due to luxury tax and promotional issues)

Basically the Lakers/Knicks/Bulls/etc. distort the market hugely.

By the way, it's fun to make fun of Stern, but some of his comments are a little on the insane side. Even if those statements are true you have to be smart enough not to say them to a decent sized audience, let alone the press.

Sounds like it - Stern seemed to be implying "Don't forget just how much dirt I have on you and yours" to Hunter.  My guess is that Hunter in the past has made some political moves, with Stern's cooperation, that might not be looked upon favorably by the players or the press.

Interesting that the players got to see this mini-blowup though.  And surprising that Stern would lose his cool in such a semi-public environment too.  Most of the real fighting is done out of sight of the "kids".

I think the NBA should go towards a hard cap like the NFL. I don't think there will be competitive balance in the league without it.

I'm very surprised that a person so hyper-aware of protecting their own image and the brand of the NBA as David Stern allowed this to happen.

I am not all that sure it was nearly as bad as it is being described.  Particularly since this is all coming from Wojo, who made his agenda clear last week, that Stern is his next target, I am not going to take this at face value.  He is a master of spinning stories to make guys look bad.

Does this mean we can find out what happen to Dino?

He can tell you but he may have to kill you afterward.

Could he tell me half and then just beat the tar out of me?

Stern doesn't beat the tar out of people, silly.

  His minions do.
