"The ability to afford Rondo large blocks of rest is a blessing, both for his health and his psyche. Sometimes, when things go bad, it helps to sit and reflect for a minute. It was a luxury that didn't exist for Rondo earlier in the season. It was why he bugged Ainge to bring in Carlos Arroyo. And it is why West will be a critical piece to Boston's postseason chances."

I had no idea this was the case. Anybody have any idea when he started asking for help?

Never heard that, but it's certainly understandable given West's injury-bug all season

I love Jackie McMullen, but it can be very frustrating to listen to her or read her stuff, because she drops these things, which have never been reported elsewhere, and which are often very interesting notes, as if they are public knowledge, and then never elaborates on them.

And don't me wrong, I believe all this stuff.  I just think she has too much inside information for her own good, and since she is not covering the C's full time, she doesn't get to delve into the minutia that she seems to get that the beat guys seem to either miss, or are not connected enough to get.

As for this particular tidbit, I would just love to know whether Rondo pushed for Arroyo in general, or just made it known that he needs more rest, and they needed another PG.

This is why Tuesdays with Jackie on the old Dale and Holley show was fantastic. Holley would always press Jackie on these exact tidbits youare talking about until she explained herself.

I think she still appears on WEEI on Tuesdays nut Mutt and Merloni dont necesarily know how to get good info out of her.

Bob Ryan used to do the same thing.

"And while the Celtics are 3-1 over their 4 game road trip, the two days of rest are certainly key to Larry Bird and Joe Kline, as they plan to spend the weekend in a marathon session of dungeons and dragons where Larry Bird will finally attempt to slay the Dragon King and claim the sword of a thousand tears.

Also, Ray Bourque is attempting to set a new personal best for assists over a 10 game stretch..."

The only reason I know this is that at my parents house in the bathroom there are hundreds of sports clippings from the Boston Globe that my grandparents would send my father throughout Bird's career..it was how I got to be a Celtics fan.

Hmmm, maybe they do just make it up, and it is part of their secret of coming off as incredibly connected and informed.  They just throw out relatively random information, that they could only know if they have great sources, but never elaborate on it to the point that someone would actually call them on it.

Genius!

(really though, I think they are both just incredibly talented and have tremendous sources).

The only real difference was "weekend in a marathon session of dungeons and dragons" was probably code for "going out and getting hammered".

I never liked Jackie.

Am I the only one who would like to see Rondo sit and rest for a game or two here?

I can buy Jackie and Bob fibbing once in a while. Why I am supposed to assume that Rondo didn't secretly ask for help when he's been hiding his injury for this long?

I wouldn't mind that.  I think we will see that with all of the starters over the final couple weeks of the season.

I think people are reading way too much into the comment.  It was widely reported the C's were potentially looking for a backup point guard around the trade deadline.  They weren't necessarily looking for one earlier in the year when West went down because they had faith in Nate at the time.

Players make suggestions all the time during practices.  It's not as if Rondo walked into Ainge's office and said listen we need to make this move.

I don't think that there was any real secrecy involved. If Rondo talked to Danny about signing Arroyo I don't think he'd have a press conference to announce it.

He could have said something like "if you're looking for a vet backup pg Arroyo would be a good choice".
