I guess I'm done with my poll strike

Strongly fighting the urge to use the word "overrated"

I don't know about you Pats fans, but, as a Dolphins fan, I'm actually rooting for a lockout (0 games), so I don't have to suffer through another pitiful season.

No.

The NFL player already has the shortest life span in this country vs. any other profession.

They take enough abuse already.

This is why I have no problem with an 18 game schedule.  The reason these guys get hurt so much is not because of the number of games.  Even if it were a 10 game schedule, they still would be rolling the dice every single game hoping that today is not the day that the star gets knocked out.

So, to me, the number of games is relatively meaningless.  If the health of the players is important, than they need to be doing more to keep them healthy in the games they actually do play, rather than worrying about extra games.  I think a much bigger issue is getting stricter penalties, and more of an effort to change the culture of the dangerous hits.  Until that is addressed, the number of games is meaningless, and if I were a season ticket holder being forced to pay for those extra games, I know I would prefer that at least one of them meant something.

I don't particularly care. Don't get me wrong, I like football a lot, but wouldn't be upset if the season was shortened.

Lengthening the season just invites more injuries.  Rules about roster sizes, PUP, etc would all have to change, IMHO.
Celtics fan for life.

Well, I think that goes without saying.  I think if the season were to be lengthened, there would be many other changes that would come with it, ranging from roster changes to salary issues.

I think the football season already lasts long enough. I'd rather not add a whole lot more meaningless games to make the league more money in revenue.

(you'll have more teams clinching earlier, and more teams playing for the future)

absolutely not... the season is already long enough, we dont need to add two extra weeks. Then we will just hear the players complain about how they need to make more money for playing two extra games.

I am happy with the season the way it is.

Until the spend more money to improve the sport science of protecting their players, no more games should be added.  I still want to see pre-season games go.

No.  Not really a fan of football, so the less football the better. ;D

All the history I've seen develop has been through the 16 game schedule... Keep it the same. Why fix the not broken?

Seems a lot of people are saying the season is long enough. I wonder if maybe this is why the XFL failed.   People just get enough football in the fall.  I always thought football had year round potential due to the old saying "In such and such a state (usually Texas, Nebraska, or Oklahoma) the two biggest sports are football and spring football" but maybe I was wrong

Not if it means giving up the KICK OFF down or play.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I voted for 18 games if they took out a couple pre-season games. Pre-season is too long, and it's really disheartening to see guys get injured in a meaningless game. I am not for expanding the rosters and diluting the talent. The guys that get cut during camp/preseason are cut for a reason. You ever been to a Pats game? For all the money and time required just to get beer spilled on you in brain-scrambling decibel levels, I don't want to see scrubs on the field.

I agree in part that health coverage should be expanded--I think the NFLPA and the league should set up a fund to help the lower paid players get additional insurance policies on a sliding scale--a lot of guys make more than enough money that they can decide which is more important--7 more illegitimate children, a 5th Escalade with diamond plated rims, or a supplemental insurance plan to look out for their future. If J-Lo can insure her booty, Tom Brady can get extra insurance on his knee or shoulder.
