Doc only used Baby, Green and West tonight.  Once we get back Shaq you can add Kristic to that group, but if he plays like he didn't the past couple of games he won't get many minutes.

All 3 bench players cover 2 positions
West (1,2)
Green (3,4)
Baby (4,5)

The other great part is they all play with good energy and Baby and West are very Gritty which is what this team needs.

I think all 3 guys will really have a big impact in the playoffs more than the recent Celts playoff teams. Starters aren't as consistent if Rondo is off his game.

Anyways, point being Once Shaq comes back I hope Rivers shortens it to a 9 man rotation.  Even with a 9 man rotation the starters can get plenty of rest as both Green and Baby can play 30 minutes plus and Delonte by then should play 20ish.

Hopefully this game was the start of something.

Good win, but isn't the goal right now to preserve our players for the playoffs? Allen playing 44 minutes is insane!

Really isn't, particularly when he hasn't played much the last couple of games, was the only guy in of our starters who was hitting shots and we really wanted to win this one. Nothing to do with the standings.

44 minutes on a back to back night, after playing 26 minutes the night before, is not something I want to see from a 35 year old. It was a great win, but I don't like that aspect of it.

Agreed Allen should have gotten more rest and normally would have.  Delonte couldn't give him a break because he had to sub in for Rondo who normally would have eaten up more minutes.

You don't have to like it, but it doesn't mean "it's insane!"

  • KG IS THE KING
I really think people tend to overreact to the minutes situation, particularly with Ray. Yes he is 35. But he is in better shape than most guards in the league. Given how FEW minutes he played in the last few games, 44 minutes is not a big deal. If this trend persists however, then we might have a problem. But it won't.

  • Rondo = Good
It is interesting in that this was probably a good idea of what the playoff rotation will look like, though hopefully Shaq will start and either JO or Nenad will be getting spot minutes backing him up (with the rest of C minutes going to KG and BBD).

Ray obviously plays a lot less contact ball on offense than someone like KG does. 70 minutes in two nights is a bit but Ray is in unbelievable shape. Its not like its UFC fighting.

For all his contributions last night, Delonte only played 19 minutes. But he's shown he's good enough to chip in 25+ backing up both Rondo and Ray, so I expect his minutes to increase as his ankle strengthens.  That should help with managing Ray.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I miss Tony Allen.
Delonte has become our Tony Allen bringing energy and defensive tenacity off the bench.
Except Delonte can shoot too!

I agree with OP though, this was a look at the playoff line up.
I assume the playoff lineup will include Krstic and Jermaine Oneal coming in with Murphy filling in odd spots here and there.
I still think Von Wafer might get more time than people think because he knows the system and was starting to play very consistently before he went down.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

Read that last line again. One more time.

There seems to be a tendency to overreact over Ray's minutes. Unwarranted.

Doc was smart to not worry about minutes for one game and to instead try to get the main players in sync after a horrid performance the night before.

I think we see some situational Arroyo as well. Just not as much against the the top PG's maybe. As time goes by, and he gets more comfortable with his role, he should play 10 mpg to go with Delontes 20. This is how we get Ray and Rajons's minutes down. This of course against second unit players and hopefully with a lead.

Ray is in better shape than most peole half his age (I'm referring to the general population and not just elite atheletes).  So his "age" matters not in determining minutes.

Also, he played great last night (in the 2nd half); West Allen and Davis won the game for us.

And lastly we needed him to win the game last night.  Doc won't admit it publicly, but the C's want the top seed in the east.  He proved it last night by playing a playoff rotation, and on the end of a back to back no less.

celtics fans want it both ways... they flip out after every loss and then we win a big game and they complain that a guy played too many minutes... go look at allen's minutes played over the last week.. he can play 44 every once in a while and be fine.. cant have it both ways guys
