So I was watching the last game and noticed Doc used a line-up with Green and Pierce together on the court. It causes match up problems for the other team because their best defender is on one while the other has an advantage.

yeah, Doc uses that line up. it's a tough combination to defend because both guys are too big and too skilled to be guarded one-on-one on the post by a SG.

Green is a liability on defense at the 4 -- but it is does create for some interesting options offensively

In the scenario above, Green is 3 and Pierce is 2.

Ah, I really like that then.

I haven't been able to see the last five games or so as we haven't been on national TV and Im in Illinois :(

Just imagine this big lineup

West at the 1
Pierce at the 2
Green at the 3

I would LOVE that lineup

I don't really mind Green at the 2 creating some mismatches, but I'd prefer to have Ray or Rondo out there instead of Pierce.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I think he's a liability when he starts and plays 38 minutes at that position (which he apparently did in OK), but in a reserve role for 25-30 minutes a game the mismatch will be more of an asset than a liability.

Why Ray or Rondo instead of Pierce?  It seems to be working pretty well with Pierce.

I think the same was true of Posey when they used to finish games with Rondo, Posey and the big three. That didn't stop Doc from using it.

Green's versatility allows Doc to go small with Green at the 4 or big with Pierce at the 2 and Green at the 3.

He still hasnt found the perfect rotation yet but it sure is nice to have options.

Good point. I guess it worked right!

i mentioned this in an earlier thread, but having green at the 3 and pierce at the 2 really screws things up for the lakers when they are on defense. because pierce is so much bigger than ray allen, fisher cant guard pierce, so they have to put him back on rondo and kobe is forced to guard either the bigger pierce or green (artest guarding the other). i think green can post kobe and hopefully draw fouls on him, while rondo will run fisher outta the gym.

i think Green's game is sort of similar to Pierce...the step back, 3s and the drive ins...

its like the other team is guarding against 2 Pierce =)

Doc is still trying to figure out how to best use Jeff Green - Link- Nice article.

But this part is a little concerning:

Quote
"If you're drafted fifth overall, and you play well, and you're 24 and your team comes to you with an extension offer, if it's not a max deal or near a max deal, there's really no incentive to do it,'' said David Falk, Green's agent. "He might not have been the No. 2 guy in Oklahoma City, but there are a teams out there that might look at him as their No. 2."

I hope we are able to re-sign him to a reasonable contract.

This is an extremely good point. I hadn't really thought about that before this post. TP for you!
