Pretty Compelling..watching it with my 12 Y.O....telling him "Old Man" stories about one of my favorite college teams of the 90's.

As a Michigan fan, it's great.  But re-living those two losses to Duke were tough.  It's also pretty disappointing knowing that they will never be good at basketball again.

Not trying to make this a hate on the Miami Heat post. But the things the Fab 5 went through parallel what went down in South Beach this year.

They've done a great job with a bunch of these. The Marcus Dupree documentary is my favorite to date.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

In what ways?

I think if I were a Mich fan I'd get sick thinking of this era. Maybe there's something I'm missing

In what ways?

1) Well starting from the recruiting process, Jwan Howard decided to go to Michigan. Then he did a lot of the recruiting to get C-Webb and Rose to join him in Michigan along with the other two guys. All 5 of these guys were top 50 college recruits and could have been stars at most universities.

2) They had a lot of people questioning their hype as bill walton did when he said "These guys think they are better than they actually are" and the media hype made them who they are (let them get to their head).

There are just some of the parallels. but the Fab 5 did produce in the Tourney (no championship tho) and the verdict is still out for Miami (hopefully they don't win this year).

I was in jr high for that and loved those teams. Everybody was a Michigan fan then.

There we go, another parallel between the Fab Five and Heat. Everyone either hates Miami or loves Miami this year.

The Fab Five was not around my time, but I can only imagine how the media might have gone crazy over them as they do with teams nowadays.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
This is pretty well done...  Watching this right now with my oldest son (who's 11).

I was 18 and remember this VERY well.  I HATED that team...I grew up in Ohio so it made us hate them even more.

I can't imagine how much worse the hype and coverage would have been if the internet existed then...

Hey early teens, I was living in Canada, its pre Internet, games on CBS and like I said everybody loved Michigan. I even remember a coach pointing it out at a basketball camp (of course he said we should look to be like Duke).

I can't understand the Fab 5 hype when they were essentially a lesser version of the Runnin Rebels teams of the early 90's.

Good points...I look back at that team and its players, and it's good to see their players still active to this day.

Chris Webber was almost an NBA champion - (SAC-LA series 2002, I believe). He's now a well-spoken Analyst on NBATV. Juwan Howard is still playing for MIA...Jalen Rose is an ESPN Analyst...he is spot-on with most of his analysis of the game.

I was 10 or 11 at the time and I liked them. Not a fan of Webber much anymore though.

Those UNLV teams that preceded them would have wiped the floor with the Fab 5 though.

Kinda funny because there was a HBO documentary on UNLV last night as well.
