If Baby wants to start maybe Minnesota or Cleveland will give him his chance - S%T for JJ Hickson straight up.

Why on earth would Cleveland do that?! Hickson is a lot better player than BBD is. They know if they want to give him the cash they can sign him in the offseason and give up nothing.

It amazes me how much our fans overvalue BBD. He has tried unsuccessfully to get the big payday for 2 yrs for a reason. Other GM's are smart enough to realize he's not that good without being surrounded by hall of famers. Quite honestly his play this year is showing that he's not that good WITH hall of famers. If he couldn't get that contract after his best season, he sure isn't going to get it after this one.

He'll be back with his hat in is hand once he realized no one else is going to give him the money he thinks he is worth. If someone is then that's okay too. Talk to Tony about it first though...

I used to think that he was gone after this season, but I'm starting to believe he'll be back.

Davis did poorly as a starter this year, which is why I think other teams will not jump at the chance to sign him.  He'll still hold value to us coming off the bench next year, and could still get good minutes.

While I'm sure he wants max $$ more than anything, I just don't think a team out there would sign him for too much.

When he re-signs, we will revisit this thread. And if he doesn't, well, I guess I'd be wrong.

Baby doesn't fill one of KG skills as a backup, not one. He's been a horrific starter. A point that Doc still forces, as if it never lost him a championship ever. Baby is lauded for getting offensive charges, which doesn't fit this defense in my opinion. Any defense that stops Rondo from fastbreaking the other end for easy baskets is simply overrated on this team, better yet this organization historically(see Russell). He's argued with Doc and called him out to media more than once. Argued on the court with Shaq this season a few times. He is only holdover on a 2nd unit still lacking consistency. Saying all that, he's still here because Danny sees value and completely collapsed a deal involving him for a reason I suspect. So hard to say.

I think out of everyone that's deal is about to expire for the Celtics that the most replaceable is Davis. He has a below average shot, can't dunk, has good hustle, good at taking chargers and a coaches player but replace just because nothing stands out.

With that being said whether or not Ainge brings Davis back will depend on whether or not we get 18. If we do get 18 then I think that Danny will begin the rebuilding process hoping that who he brings in will learn what they can from the Big 3 before they are broken up, I don't think Davis comes back in that case. If they lose then they'll bring back who they can, most likely Green and maybe West but Davis might still be a toss up but Danny just might bring him back. I'd be surprised if he was back but you never know.

Gody would have been a good candidate to replace Davis I do think if he had been better with defense. Not all players are good at defense, heck Melo stinks and he's an all star, but it's important to what the Celtics are doing right now and Gody could score, hustle to rebounds but wasn't good at defense. We'll see what happens but I still don't see him back.

Gody's simply too small to play against too many power forwards.  We don't need a a regular-season, bad team PF specialist. It's a sign of how far they've fallen that Cleveland does.

Again, I'm very curious to see what happens to BBD over the rest of the season.  With Green here and the most big man depth we've ever had (assuming the O'Neals get healthy), BBD may be looking at a dramatic reduction in minutes.  While I'd say it'd be unlikely, I could even see scenarios play out where he gets DNP-CDs in the playoffs.

And that could go one of two ways: it could run him out of town in search of more minutes OR it could drive down his value so much that no one will be willing to offer him a big contract.

It really depends on the new CBA.

If the owners get what they want, Davis is the type of player that will take the big financial hit.

Teams will have more limited financial options so it is harder to sign a bunch of high priced FA from other teams while the teams that own those stars get extra advantages to keep the stars.

The rest of the role players will be payed with the remaining scraps of cap room.

Therefor, no team is going to break the bank for a player like Davis.

I'd take BBD for Mayo.

I think Ainge will try to work out a deal for him.   So we get something and the other team does too.

I think he will test the market.  I do think his value has dipped slightly with the poorer performance.  But likewise the dealing of Perk has to make Davis know he is an only an asset to Danny.  All that team rarara went out the window with the trade of Perk.

I do think Baby will want more money if it's offered and a chance to be a starter (if it's offered) and don't blame him. He's young and is just being smart about his career.

I wouldn't say like most on this thread that he has been almost worthless to this team. He has done so much for us and his defense is his number one asset. He spends much of his time on the court with defensive plays, which shows the team mentality he has vs. Green who does not seem to want to play any defense. (though I think Green is very good offensively)

Baby has sacrificed his body so much not for himself, but for his team, so the constant ranting about how he's a ME player is so untrue, imo. Give credit where credit is due.

I think Ainge will not offer BBD a long-term contract.  Something along the lines of two years with a third year either mostly unguaranteed or at a team option is probably the most Ainge is willing to swallow.  I can't see him wanting to lock up Glen Davis for four years.  I don't think BBD fits in if Ainge has a vision of a post-KG future as more of a running team built around Rondo.

Funny this thread is out there.  I know many will disagree with me but I will be happy to see him go.  Like Eddie House a few years back, I do not like that when the ball movement is working well it always seems to stop when it hits his hands.  IMO... He is not good enough for it to stop in his hands as often as it does.  That being said,  In NBA 2K11 I locked up Murphy and Kristic for a couple years,  then traded Baby to Portland for Rudy Fernandez.  Although the Mayo deal would 100 X's better, I think the Rudy deal would be easier to pull off.

As limited as Baby's game is, he really is a terrific bench player.  I've always said I don't think he'll ever start for a contender, but I do acknowledge that he could be a perennial candidate for 6th man of the year.  What kind of pay does that warrant?  I'd say 3 years $12M would be very fair to both parties.  That's gotta be about the max $ we can offer him over that time anyways (without using MLE), maybe not even that much?  I have been a critic of Baby, but I have no problem paying him for what he is.  He's a likeable player to root for too.
