I think our PA announcer is excellent.  On the understated side, which is to my taste.  I can't stand the screaming buffoons of the league.  The Cleveland guy, the Detroit PA, and the Miami ones come immediately to mind.  Cleveland and Detroit are just the absolute worst, and every time I have to hear them I'm thankful for our guy's understated delivery.

The dude's voice cracks all the time. It is embarrassing. I'm sure they can find plenty of people who can go the good stuff he does without their voice cracking all the time.

I agree with what a lot of you have said. In an ideal world, we wouldn't have all the extra perks that are designed to attract the wealthy casual/average fans. I think the Celtics organization has done a great job of compromising - a louder than "old school" PA announcer, the starting lineup presentation, and SOME in-game music. In other words, we're modern enough, but still the most traditional.

We never have music blaring over the PA during live play (to me, this is what clearly separates us from the rest of the league), and our PA announcer is the least obnoxious one I've heard in the NBA. Not to sound too snobby as a basketball fan, but if we could just get rid of the "everybody clap your hands" thing, I'd be perfectly content. IMO, that's beneath us.

I actually like him, and think he is one of the better PA annoucners in the league. I also agree with the notion that the guy the Lakers have is just plain annoying, and it has nothing to do with me hating the lakers. His tone is flat out boring, but I guess that makes him fit in pretty well with their fans. I also agree that the the guy from Detroit was awful... CHAUNCEY B B B B B B BILLUPS

I am not an average fan but I prefer the use of the PA system EXCEPT when the crowd is already chanting and then some bozo drowns it out with a song.

During the regular season it is easy to coast as a fan without prompting. I don't know how many of the commenters have had season tickets before, but when I did I was pretty loud and into it. But sometimes you need the PA system to get 2 sides of the arena in sync. Other times when there is silence, it is really awkward and feels dead.

I think the Celtics do a great job with the game. My #1 priority at the game is not anyone's entertainment, but winning. Anything the organization feels it need to in the arena to give our guys an extra shot of adrenaline as they grow tired is fine by me.

I have zero concern for what is traditional. Old ways are more often inferior ways.

I like
Sorry, but I like him quite a bit, actually ... I think he's easily one of the best announcers in the NBA. If you want obnoxious, listen closely to the Lakers' announcer ... or Philly's, or Miami's, or Denver's ... or many others who are far worse. Other arenas also play way too much music during active game time, IMO, and that drives me crazy ... I think Boston has a good balance.

Detroit? I don't think I could of stood too much more of DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETROIT BAS-KET-BALLLLLLLLL when we played them back in the ECF in '08. THAT was terrible.

Yeah, that guy's terrible, too.

I think some of that hypeman-type stuff has died down recently, but man it was bad when Detroit was always going to the ECF.

What's our PA announcer's name? I think it's Eddie something. He's far from unbearable, though. It could be a lot worse. Imagine BAW-STIN BAS-KET-BALLLLL!

I liked the detroit guy.....

The Detroit PA guy is obnoxious.

I think people think he's obnoxious because we're not Detroit fans. If we were, we would like him a lot more. I remember watching Detroit take on the Spurs and loving that announcer since I was rooting for the Pistons.

Become Legendary.

If you're expecting a no-nonsense public address announcer, I hate to break it to you but those days are over.

NBA games are much more than just the game.  It's part entertainment.  That's here to stay.

Personally, I think Eddie does a great job.  I've only been back for one game this year but back in my days of living there I always thought he did a fine job.

I barely notice the PA announcer at the game. he doesnt do anything outrageous and Ive never heard one person complain about him. Not one.

What is your idea of a GOOD PA announcer?

Cosign all around.  I love the work Eddie Palladino does.

Hard to beat hearing Pierce announced as "the Captain aaaand The Truth" to complete the lineup.
