I should follow up my comment above with this: Ainge got lucky. Arroyo was only released by Miami because Bibby became available (and some might question whether Bibby constitutes an upgrade there).

Likewise, Pavlovic became available when Corey Brewer turned down the Celtics' offer.

It's entirely possible that neither player ended up with the Celtics.

so you wouldn't do an Arroyo-Pavlovic for Bibby-Brewer trade?? because i would. i wouldn't say Ainge was lucky that those two were available. i would've said that Ainge is unlucky that his first choices didn't sign with him (other than Murphy)

Everyone knows 'Gody can shoot, but he'd get eaten alive in the playoffs. We can just buy him back at a later date.

Very good trade.

I feel much better relying on Arroyo or Pavlovic in the playoffs than Harangody or Erden. Wholly uncomfortable with the idea of Harangody having to play any playoff minutes + Erden could have been somewhat useful but he would have been the 7th big in the depth chart now so his potential contributions would have been minimal. Arroyo (3rd string PG) and Pavlovic (5th wing) bring more quality depth and balance to the team.

Considering that the main goal is to win a championship this year, yep it's a very good trade. Particularly with Doc as a coach and his trust issues (whether warranted or not) with young players. What Ainge has done is surrounded Doc with a plethora of useful veterans for the playoffs run. And more importantly, we got healthier with all the moves he's made while very much solidifying our depth chart in all positions. And those future draft picks don't hurt either.

I think Sasha fills the void from the Marquis trade to Sactown, so it's more like Murphy and Arroyo (plus cash savings and the pick) for Semih and Gody.   

I'm doubtful of this.  Jeff Green filled the void from the Marquis trade.  Our first priority always would have been Troy Murphy, I think, both to give us more size after the Perk trade, and to keep him away from Miami.

Danny was unlucky with Pavlovic. He wanted Brewer. Pavlovic was already available.

So the 'Ainge got lucky' comment is a highly questionable interpretation.

I think he wanted Arroyo over Bibby, at least I did.  Bibby is not a real point guard and we already have him in Delonte. We needed a real point guard that can handle the ball and run the team.  Arroyo is a point guard.  Plus, there's no way Bibby would want to be 3rd string (although I think Doc might put him ahead of Delonte since he has more experience).

I didn't like or dislike the trade in the beginning, but  I did see  the need. I was heartsick about losing Perkins...and not crazy about losing Harangody and Erden.   Now that the dust is settling, and I see that the traded players  are mostly in better situations for them, and the new players seem to be a clear upgrade, I really like the trade.  The only question now is, since the rest of the team seems to have come to terms with it, can Rondo?  My guess is yes, he is beginning to integrate the new players.  (But he did take it very hard at first, and his play showed it, IMO.)

i'm still not in favor.  i would like to have held onto erden.  technically, he was a first rounder, if you remember what danny said when he was drafted.

i don't believe it helped us.  we got rid of two players who were not going to see a lot of playing time and picked up two role players, who when the team is healthy, are not going to see much playing time.

Excellent trade. Two players with limited ceilings that wouldn't help now by an hopefully early 2nd rounder and a couple of experienced veterans that are more or less dependable. I'd just have picked a different player than Arroyo.

When you put it into those terms its hard to argue against the trades being good for the team... Also, you forgot that we get 2 second round draft picks and a clippers first rounder. So overall, our team is significantly better now and significantly better set up for the future.
