Technically, we traded Semih and Harangody for a 2nd rounder, but in reality the trade broke down like this in hindsight:

Cleveland receives: Semih Erden, Luke Harangody

Boston receives:  Sasha Pavlovic, Carlos Arroyo, 2nd rounder, cash (probably around $500k, when you take saved luxury tax into account)

Good trade for us?  A bad one?  What do you think?

I like that trade...we traded a 3rd string center and PF for 3rd string SF, PG and a 2nd rounder + approx. 500K.

None of the players involved in that deal are the type that their ex-teams will miss...but in our case, a second backup for PP and Rondo were more important. The second round pick and the cash is just gravy.

It pains me to say...still don't like it that much. Harangody for Arroyo straight up by waiving one and signing the other I like better..but Quis's injury created a need.

It's ok as long as Danny doesn't say "We think Sasha and Carlos are starters in this league"

I only like the trade because it gave Harangody a chance to really play and maybe even try to get into the starting lineup. No way that was going to happen here. Erden hasn't played for the Cavs but I think the trade helped him cause now he can get healthy.

I didn't like the trade at the time and still don't for the same reason and that's we gave up size but it worked out. Gody and Semih were just on this team at the wrong time and I think that had this been 2 years from now they'd still be here and be considered assets. I think they'll both be good NBA players (Gody I think will be better) and wish them both luck.

I think Sasha fills the void from the Marquis trade to Sactown, so it's more like Murphy and Arroyo (plus cash savings and the pick) for Semih and Gody. The only thing I didn't like, and I still don't like, is parting ways with Semih. I really see backup center potential in him. He's better than advertised, and plays with heart.

For me, it's Arroyo for Gody, and Murphy for Semih. The first one fills the need for a backup PG, the second one fills the need for a big who can contribute in the playoffs. Semih (probably) couldn't do that, although I believe he could shock everyone and play good minutes. Murphy... I hope he'll be a better option, but that's still to be seen.

The problem is DWest and JO are fragile, and Shaq is old, so the Celtics need too many insurance players. But on the other hand, whenever they are healthy, they are high quality players and can be contributors to #18. That's how this roster is built, so I trust them.

Considering Ainge's track record with 2nd round draft picks, I have to believe that the guy he takes with the Minnesota 2nd rounder will be just as if not more valuable than either Luke (#52, 2010) or Semih (#60, 2008). In fact, I'm willing to bet that neither Luke nor Semih will still be in the league when that pick is made in 2013.

Meanwhile, Pavlovic and Arroyo have both demonstrated that they are NBA material. Trading two rookies for players with their experience was a solid move to bolster a championship contending bench.

think its fantastic, we could have just as easily waived those guys and got nothing for them. Murphy, Sasha and Arroyo are a clear upgrade over gody and semih :P
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.

I should follow up my comment above with this: Ainge got lucky. Arroyo was only released by Miami because Bibby became available (and some might question whether Bibby constitutes an upgrade there).

Likewise, Pavlovic became available when Corey Brewer turned down the Celtics' offer.

It's entirely possible that neither player ended up with the Celtics.

I can't really ever imagine a time in the future when harangody could be considered an asset.
I'm jut not a fan, he has a 6 feet box as far as his growth ceiling goes and i can't see him improving much.
Semih could turn into an okay version of krstic one day but that's about it.

Where does Curly need to improve?  He's been an NBA starter for 5-6 years so most likely has reached his potential.  In the 2 or 3 games he's played he's shown nice touch and nice hands on the offensive end and is one of the better rebounders on he C's.

The trade of Erden and Luke to CLE was all about freeing up roster spots, so you'll need to include the Daniels trade as well.  We basically traded Semih, Luke, and Marquis, and ended up with Sasha, Carlos, and Troy.

We probably pick up Bibby if they didn't waive Arroyo.

Danny was unlucky with Pavlovic. He wanted Brewer. Pavlovic was already available.

So the 'Ainge got lucky' comment is a highly questionable interpretation.

Arroyo was not available at the time that the trade was made. So, if Ainge had targeted him specifically, he did get lucky.

I also consider Bibby a worse fit for the Celtics than Arroyo. So in that respect as well, I think Ainge lucked out.
