to be fair to Danny he didn't say that Green is a better defender than Perk , he said he could be , and I think the main reason he said that is because he doesn't think Perk will get back to 100% this year or the near future . Let's see how the season plays out before we bash him over that . He wasn't talking about a 100% healthy Perk from last year he was talking about a guy coming off major knee surgery and already suffering an injury to the opposite knee within 3 weeks of returning.

Who knows if Perk ever gets back to 100%. I've seen you say in a few other threads that "Kristic had major knee surgery, he will never be close to the player that he was in NJ" , but how come the same doesn't go for Perk then ?

Well, Danny said that Green can defend three positions, too.  That's technically true, in the way that Dan Dickau can defend two positions.  Green is a pretty poor defender at PF, and is certainly worse than even an injured Perk.  Also, despite the revisionism about Perk's defense being worse now, our defense didn't miss a beat when he came back.  In fact, I've read somewhere that it got better (as our team defensive rating improved during his presence), but I don't have independent verification on that.

As for Krstic, his game absolutely did decline after what was a fairly devastating knee injury.  There's no guarantee that Perk is ever the same player that he was, but with modern medicine I'd be willing to take my chances.

All GMs lie and most are arrogant and will never admit a mistake. Danny happens to be a little more arrogant than most, but he also is a shrewed guy who has made a lot of good deals. The jury is still out on this one in terms of whether it results in a championship, but I would say a majority of his deals have been on the plus side for the Celts.

I love Danny. The Celtics are 3-0 with Green and Kristic. The starting offense has never looked better and I can see glimpses of Green's potential as a super 6th man.

3-0 versus pretty much the little sisters of the poor. Yes, the offense has gotten better, but let's wait to see how they look when they come up against the iron. That will be the test.

I fail to see how he's lying about Jeff Green. You don't teach those physical gifts, that body, that wingspan, that athleticism. You teach the youngster Celtic team defense. He has the ability to be one of the best defenders in the league. He's not even close yet, but he's 24, and now learning from vets like Ainge, Rivers, Pierce, and KG. That's worth it's weight in gold alone.

Right, what you said appears to be 100% accurate.  That's not what Danny said, though.  Instead, he spun it, to imply that he already is one of the best defenders in the league.

I find this thread somewhat......extreme.  Especially given the title:  "this has got to stop"  ....I heard Danny's EEI interview and I thought it was, at most, wonderfully reasonable spin.  I mean You're a liar and you've got to stop it?  Which is the gist of the OP?  What universe has this become?

kristic was also playing with Jason Kidd in New Jersey and has looked pretty [dang] good playing with Rondo and not in the iso heavy offense the Thunder run.

Lets see what kind of impact Perk will have coming back from another knee injury and not surrounded by 4 all-stars .

Doc isn't going to play Green out of position most of the time, but when the matchup is favorable he can go to it, like against chris bosh, Ryan Anderson,

I just believe that many of us will always miss and love Kendrick. I am one of those.

I am sure that there will always be some that don't agree with the trade. That's ok, too.

I think that a "Good" trade is one that works out for both organizations, and IMO this is one of them. A trade between two successful organizations, one with a time-honored tradition, and one that is up-and-coming.

OKC needed one of the top defensive centers in the league to beef up their frontline against the likes of LA, and we needed that Clip 1st round pick, a TRUE Small Forward that could start one day soon AND FINALLY backup Paul Pierce (and KG in some instances). Boston also needed a decent replacement for Perk - and we got that in Nenad. He may not be known as a defensive stopper, but he has already shown good offensive skill, can rebound at a decent clip, and can certainly spread the floor.

Lord knows, I have waited for a Small Forward like this since Posey left, and with JG we now have that....and he's only 24 and WAS a starter on OKC. I can't count the numerous threads here in the Forums and on the Blog main page that kept asking Danny to acquire "A LASF" "Long, Athletic, SF"...I have seen so many options come up -

"Can we get Dorell Wright?" "Michael Pietrus?" "Grant Hill?", etc, etc...

Well, Jeff Green has all of those players beat, in one way or another.

And we got him.

I watched an interview with Kendrick on NBATV a few days after the Trade, and what he said sent a chill up my spine:

"Well, TO BE HONEST", he said, "I was thinking about OKC since last Summer."

There you go.

I think that fact that Danny had the courage to actually pull the trigger on such a trade in the middle of a playoff run and it affected TWO teams is what had KG and company and Perk in shock, at least temporarily.

Brilliant move by Danny.

Danny didn't send Perk to just ANY team.

He sent Perk to OKC - a Team and Organization with a very Bright future.

Some liar, right there.

I see a GM that is trying desperately to keep Boston viable, and at the same time maybe extend Paul, KG and Ray's window?

I think he is doing that. I would not be surprised to see Boston with a very similar record next year at this point - and it will be because of Delonte, JG, Nenad, Troy, Sasha, Glen (hopefully) and:

Danny.

Thanks, DA.

I know that the reality is that we may not be able to keep everyone after we win Banner 18 this June. But I'm sure we'll bring back most of those I listed.

But at least, for now? Danny has resurrected a bench that is very close to, if not succeeding, the bench we had in 2007-08.

Again - Thanks Danny. I bet that Doc is thanking him, too.

Amen. Everyone wants to blame the injury, which no doubt had an effect. But don't think for a second, going from having Kidd create for you, to standing around watching Durant/Westbrook iso is not going to have an effect as well.

Um, i get that you do not like the move but none of your 5 points is actually a verifiable lie.

I heard ainge yesterday on eei and the night of the trade on csn and i thought he was honest (while framing the move in the positive light he thinks it should be framed in seeing as he executed the trade)

Sorry OP, but I agree with Carhole.  Your title is disingenuous.  You haven't pointed out a single lie.
There is a difference between lying and salemanship, which is part of Danny's (and Theo's, and Bill's...) job.   I am sure Danny has lied in the course of doing his job, but you fail to point out even one lie and then you proceed (essentially) to call him a liar.  You've not done your job here.  My opinion: Either change the thread title or actually point out a lie.

Danny does what he thinks will get the team more W's. He doesn't do what he thinks will necessarily be more popular, or less controversial with the fan base. Danny's trying to win games, because he knows that if he fails to keep the Celtics in contending mode while the big 3 are on the roster and fails to show he's still one of the best GM's out there on a yearly basis, Danny Ainge will be shown the door with the same hand shake and averted eyes that awaited Kendrick Perkins as he was shown the door. That's the reality he operates with, so while I might disagree with his moves, I can't stay mad at the guy, because its his job that he's screwing up or keeping with these moves, so I assume he feels like they're the right ones.

Honestly the injury clearly hurt his game some, but he's been a pretty consistent player. He just got a bunch of minutes with Kidd and people got excited about him. Overall his statistical profile is very even.

Krstic played with Kidd in New Jersey after the injury and he looked exactly as he looked in OKC - actually, he looked worse.

Krstic before the injury as a very different player than the one after the injury. Much reduced athleticism and mobility. I completely disagree he's basically the same player or that it was about Kidd. He didn't rely on jumpers so much, he had a very dangerous first step for a big. A dangerous player in isolations. He was blossoming into an All-Star type of center.

eja117, this post is pretty sad.  Ainge is not your friend, he's a guy on TV.  Comparing what makes him an excellent executive to a movie therapy scene... I can't get behind this either.

Hope you feel better, but that post is a lot of fantasy and not a lot of reality.

Let's just wait and see.  This looks like it will be an incredible year to be a Celtics fan!
