This is a completely unfair post/thread in my opinion.

What Perk took at the first of March is different than what he would have been offered as a free agent this summer--and I'm glad Danny didn't wait to try to pay $50M for him.  Would have been a complete disaster for the restocking he's got to do.

We'll see soon enough where Semih is playing next season.

Nenad is a starting center in this league.  Danny hasn't been pitching him as a starting center for this team this year, once the other guys are back.  But Nenad was in a bad situation and thus undervalued when Danny struck.  This was a low-risk move in part because the guy has been healthy and in part because Lawrence Frank's already had him on his team.

I am so glad Danny, rather than one of the posters here, is the GM for the C's.

4. Tommy says Semih wants to go back to Turkey. Highly convenient. Way to keep a tight lid on that till juuuusssssttt the right time, and the time just happens to be damage control time and we don't trust you any more so you get Tommy to say it for you. Oh Danny. Danny Danny Danny.

Dude... if this was true then thats the exact reason HE COULDN'T SAY IT UNTIL AFTER THE TRADE.

Who the hell is going to take him, and his second year guaranteed contract (even if it's only for 500k or whatever, money is money) if they think he's going to jump ship first chance he gets. Wasted roster spot, and no GM in their right mind would take him on.

If it's true, the fact that Danny managed to get any pick out of it at all is a complete swindle of a deal.

So maybe it's a convenient explanation, or maybe it is actually true. But if it is true, saying you think it's a lie because he's saying it after the fact is ridiculous, he would have no choice but to do that just to give himself any leverage.

Please keep this post by Roy from not too long ago in mind.

Lately, several members have seemingly forgotten CelticsBlog's rules and standards of decorum.  There have been literally dozens of posts along the lines of "This thread should be deleted" / "This thread is moronic" / "I wish we could give negative TPs."

Usually, these posts are in response to a thread that in some way criticizes a Celtic, which in turn resorts to the exceedingly immature "I'm a bigger Celtic fan that you" peeing contests.  Many posters have apparently adopted a viewpoint that it's okay to gang up on people simply because that person doesn't have a popular opinion.  That couldn't be further from the truth.

Over the last several weeks, the staff has posted dozens of warnings, which have been largely ignored.  Let this serve as a final warning, then:  if you personally attack somebody by using language of the type cited above, you will be suspended.  It doesn't matter if this is a first offense, it doesn't matter if 14 other people in the thread were doing the same thing.  Point blank, suspensions will be given, no exceptions.

Nobody is happy about this solution, but we've been left with no choice.  If people don't want to comply with the rules, and want to repeatedly ignore staff warnings, then we're going to have to be stricter in our enforcement.  We appreciate the hundreds and thousands of members who are able to disagree civilly; for those who can't, it's time to modify your behavior, or move on.

If you have any questions about the policy, post them here.

Danny.. ..this constant lying thing. It's got to stop. I get that you thought this was the best way to help the team short term and long term. I get that it's your job and you're confident. I get that your values may be different especially since you yourself was traded.

But this lying thing is getting out of hand. It's so out of hand that you have other people lying for you and with you now.

Let's look at the following things said by you and your associates in the past few weeks.

1. We offered an extension to Perk and he didn't take it and we were afraid we'd lose him.

Did you talk to him? How'd he look in those Thunder profile pics? Happy to be with a new team that might give him the money? How does he sound about throwing out his shoes? A guy whose heart wasn't in Boston? A guy who wanted every cent? Did he hold out for every cent in the past? Cmon Danny. Cmon.

2. We think Nenad is a starting center in this league.

In this league? Maybe. On a championship team? On our team? There's lots of starting centers in this league. Start Chris Johnson there tomorrow. Boom. Starting center. Nazr Mahommed? Kwame Brown? Darko? All starting centers I guess.

3. Jermaine O'Neal will be healthy for the playoffs. Danny. Jermaine. The last time we saw this guy he could hardly walk. Boy who cried wolf at best. Either you lie about injuries or the team has medical staff issues.

5. You would have traded Bird before he got old. Actually I rather believe you on this. That's the problem. I know you think it would have been great to trade him for Clyde Drexler, Sam Bowie and a bag of peanuts in 1988 and that's the problem. Hey Danny. Do me a favor ok? Try not to trade Lucky for the Suns Gorilla and a draft pick, and try not to trade Red's statue and Bill's new medal he got from Obama for 40 pieces of silver ok? If someone calls you offering a great deal for Paul Pierce involving a young stater and a Euro just hang up. Nobody will think less of you. It's ok. Just let it go.

The only thing that Danny's said the past few weeks that I think he's exaggerated about is the fact that Green might be  a better defender than Perkins.  Now while I don't necessarily think that's true, let's at least give it the season to pan out.  For all we know Perk has poor movement when he comes back and Green does an admirable job on LeBron in the playoffs.  As for the other stuff:

1) Just because Kendrick is sad doesn't mean that Danny didn't offer him what's rumored to be the case.  I think he absolutely talked to his people and things didn't get worked out.  I think there's zero evidence to suggest he's lying.

Also remember that the Thunder have their core and can afford to overpay for role players right now.  The C's have to keep in mind that they want to get under the cap in a couple of years.  Simply put, the Thunder could afford to give Perk a big contract more than we could.

2) He never said Nenad Krstic is this team's starting center.  He's been very explicit that Shaquille O'Neal is.  So I don't know why you take umbrage with the fact that he called the former starting center of #4 seed Thunder a "starting center" in this league.  He certainly was as recently as two weeks ago.

3) Jermaine.  Should we be skeptical?  Probably.  However, let's wait and see what happens before we call Danny a liar.  There were countless people on this board who practically wrote novels on this board about how KG would never be the same again and that it's impossible for a player in his 30s to recover from a leg injury.  That obviously proved completely false.  Thus, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that JO could give us 15 mpg of good rebounding and defense.

4) Semih?  Same deal.  Let's see what he does next year before we jump the gun.  Furthermore, what's really his incentive to lie about this one?  Was the Celtic fan base really so upset about Semih Erden that he needed to lie about why he was traded?  I don't think so.

5) The Larry Bird thing I think has been overblown.  I don't really agree with his assessment of things there.  Red did have a rebuilding plan; unfortunately, Reggie and Len died. But I also feel that the situation we have today is much different.  Larry and Kevin were chronically injured, making it very tough to gauge what to do.  On one had Red clung on to the notion that they could recover (keep in mind, that both had been in the league fewer than 10 years by '88).

Here's it's completely different.  Paul and Ray look rejuvenated, looking just as good as '08 (one could argue that Ray actually looks better).  And KG is fairly close to what he was in '08, even if he is a step slower.

So even if Ainge is sincere about trading aging vets, these vets aren't chronically hurt like Larry and Kevin and this team is still clearly an elite team.  You couldn't say that about Red and the C's of the late '80s.

The only thing I remember Danny saying when he got here is that the fans of Boston deserve a winner, night in, and night out. That's what he wants.

I realize he won't be perfect, and no gm in this league is. But he's been [dang] near close. We are a winner and now feared and expected to win on a nightly basis. Have been since his Ray and KG trades. I can't ask for anything more. Im never doubting him. Especially not with the slug gms that came before him. #44 belongs in the rafters, and I can't believe how many lame posts there are ripping him. He gave his all in the 80's and now for the green. I love how he could careless about the media or what anyone thinks. He wants to improve the team just like we do. His vision is always a step higher, no matter the cost.

People ripped him when he drafted a guy like Perkins. Now they rip him for trading him. No win situation regardless. It's Boston, we expect the best. He understands. Ainge is an ex King as well. I'm sure they'd love and appreciate him out in NorCal if Boston doesn't. I don't think Wyc and co. would be interested tho. Just a hunch.

Wait, people actually are defending Danny as being "honest"?

Look, the guy is a GM.  He lies, and spins things, to appease his fan base and to posture around the league.  It's what he does.

"Jeff Green is a better defender than Perk"?  Come on, Danny.  No, he's just not.

"I have faith that J.O. will be healthy for the playoffs"?  Like Jermaine or hate him, but only a fool would be fully convinced that he'll be healthy.

Basically, I think eja is on to something here, and I'm sympathetic to the thread.  I'd love to ask Danny "who do you think you're fooling?"  (Of course, the answer would apparently be "A lot of people".)  However, as personally grating as I find it to be, it's also part of Danny's job.  The fan base was upset, so the Celts went about spinning the situation to paint themselves in a better light.

It's par for the course, and other organizations do this, too (with the Red Sox being notorious for it).  As soon as a guy leaves, all of his flaws are acknowledged (and sometimes exaggerated), while the new guys are hailed as perfect fits for our team.  The only thing you can do is recognize it as spin, and evaluate things on your own.

All I have to say for Danny is, it's a good thing BYU doesn't still make him sign an honor code every year. ;)

I get that people are still mad about the trade, but I fail to see any lies in those statements.

1. Yes, Danny was worried Perk would turn down his offer and/or wouldn't be able to pay him what he wanted.

2. Krstic IS a starting center in this league. He started for OKC, no? That's a pretty good team.

3. Danny knows more about Jermaine O'Neals health than anyone else on this blog.

4. Semih was homesick, that's not exactly a huge revelation.

5. Not sure what this has to do with lying...

Again, I don't know how those points have anything to do with not telling the truth.

But even so, he's a GM, of course he's going to spin things to make himself look better. It's his job.

to be fair to Danny he didn't say that Green is a better defender than Perk , he said he could be , and I think the main reason he said that is because he doesn't think Perk will get back to 100% this year or the near future . Let's see how the season plays out before we bash him over that . He wasn't talking about a 100% healthy Perk from last year he was talking about a guy coming off major knee surgery and already suffering an injury to the opposite knee within 3 weeks of returning.

Who knows if Perk ever gets back to 100%. I've seen you say in a few other threads that "Kristic had major knee surgery, he will never be close to the player that he was in NJ" , but how come the same doesn't go for Perk then ?

While I absolutely agree that Danny lies, my above post was simply pointing out that the OP's choice of statements weren't particularly good examples.

Still, at this point, none of them are "lies."  Semih may go back to Turkey, JO may be healthy, and Nenad Krstic certainly is a starting center in this league.

While we may find out that all of these are lies down the line, none of them are provable right now.

TP for the OP.  Some folks need the building to actually fall before they believe it will.

DA has been fibbing for years.  I hate it but it is part of his job.  /sigh     When he starts talking a player up, you know he is looking to trade them....
