Green interested in re-signing with Celtics

Blakley said his value will be determined by the new CBA, so I don't expect anything until after that is all decided. I really hope we lock him up long term to pair with Rondo and Bradley. Would that still leave us with cap space for a max FA in 2012?

It'd be trick with Pierce still on the books - it really depends on what the new CBA is gonna look like with what type of cap limit will be in place.

Interesting then that OKC gave up another starter, and a possible lottery pick to get a guy with less value than Green.

It is team building. The same reason that Lebron and Wade are 2 of the 5 best players in the league but dont guarantee a title is the reason they would move the "more talented" player.

Green is redundant and they would not resign him long term to play out of position and to keep Harden on the bench.

By moving green they increase the value/production of Harden and of Ibaka by moving him to the PF spot and letting him be active and roam on D when paired with a physical C like Perk.

The pieces have to fit or you do not fully capitalize on the teams potential.

Actually seems like a pretty decent trade from both sides to me.

Not sure Green is redundant at all at OKC. He doesn't fit the simplistic plan Scott Brooks has offensively. They just don't run anything remotely like a team offense - a two-man iso for Durant and Westbrook. They wanted a defensive center.

Well he didn't fit what they needed defensively, not with Durant not being strong enough to play PF full time.

I would not sign Green to the contract Perk signed.



That's how teams end up as low playoff teams/high lotto teams.


They over pay good players before they have the star core in place.  Once they do that, they no longer have the flexibility to get those stars.



Green is a very good player, but he is not the star the Celtics will need to pair with Rondo.

He'll likely be offered a little less in my view, though with his RFA status we might be able to sign him for much less.

I think him being a RFA next year made him attractive.  Ainge gave up the unknown of resigning Perk next year for a contract he controls that is off the book in 2012.  (like almost all contracts except Rondo and Pierce)
