I assume most of us have seen him play, and a lot of us further think he's a fringe NBA player.  That observation seems to be shared by most of the actual teams, since the only work Pavlovic has found so far has been on 10 day contracts.

He's just not a great (or even average) player.  That's why he' going to be the 14th man / 2nd towel waver.

I like this signing. From everything I hear, he's not as good as Brewer, but Boston's only asking him to fill the third-string SF spot. This increases my comfort level, because it's the first time this season the C's have had three true wingmen.

Yeah, he started some games for Dallas this season and was decent, but not at the level he used to be (defense+shooting).

I'll be surprised if he doesn't take over Von Wafer's spot in the depth chart.

He's not a great player.

But reading some posts about Sasha P., similar to posts about Leon Powe, it seems that people think that Danny Ainge has the choice between Sasha P. and Manu Ginobili, or between Leon Powe and Dwight Howard.

I mean, come on everyone, the pickings are slim, but we are talking about the end of the bench.

So long as the players we take on more or less aproximate what we were getting from Harandogy and Erden, we are coming out ahead here....

Just to be clear, other options at wing (other than Sasha) include Ime Udoka, Danny Green, Adam Morrison, Darius Miles, ...  I could maybe see the argument for one or two of these guys over Sasha P., but its not as if its a very clear cut case...

I'd rather them sign Jerry Stackhouse or Danny Green.

Oh, I agree.  After Butler and Brewer went elsewhere and Kapono wasn't bought out, there weren't many options.  I don't have a lot of faith in Pavlovic, and all things being equal I'd prefer Luke and Semih, but like I said, the guy is going to be waving a towel, so it's not a huge deal.

Also, Roy, to the extent that any frustration showed in my post it wasn't in response to your post but rather a number of posts I've seen over the last several days.

When talking about the merits of various players that are on waiver wire, it is useful to keep in mind that their previous team *didn't want them*.

That's all, I'm out. See you all tomorrow.

He's a fringe backup, but will likely give us more than Luke.

Not a bad guy for the 14th man on the roster.   Do we pick up a PG?

Anyone that can do this deserves my support for the 14th man.

Don't like the move.

Why sign a retread everyone knows can't play? Just because he's been in the NBA? During which time he's shown he can't play. Makes sense.

Why not try your luck with the D-League? Some useful guys come out of there. Worst case, you're just as screwed if your D-League flop is playing as if Pavlovic is playing, who you know will stink.

Othyus Jeffers. Better athlete, probably better defender, can score garbage buckets and can rebound. Potential to be a TA type who, for better or worse, is and has been rotation worthy for playoff teams.

I think Pavlovic is a wing version of Scal.  He is not going to blow anyone away, and if he is a longterm part of your rotation, you are in trouble.  However, if you need someone to step in for a few games because of an injury, he can do it without taking much off the table.

He has a well rounded game, and while he is not great at anything, he also does not have any gaping holes that can be exploited.  Those are exactly the type of players who are incredibly valuable to have at the end of the bench of a team hoping to go deep in the playoffs.

Exactly. Too much short-sightedness going on.

never liked him, but gotta say after watching the highlight reel I like what I'm seeing.  All of the sudden we have depth at the 3, which is never a bad thing.  good consolation prize, better offense than Brewer.  Who is the final piece now?  Powe dog?
