I realize it may be too soon to start discussing this topic, but I just can't help it lol.

Given that Jeff Green is set to be a restricted free agent this offseason, what will it take ensure he's part of our longterm future?

It seems trading him for Perk signaled that Danny Ainge believes Green's a better fit with Rondo in the post-Big Three Era. But with the new CBA looming large, what's his market value? I go back and forth, but I think $35-40m over 5 years is a realistic number. What's everyone else's thoughts?

I would like to see what he does/how he fits in the Celtics system. Looks like he has a lot to learn.

It is tough to say not knowing the new CBA.  But if we were working under the old CBA, I think he would be in line for a deal similar to Marvin Williams' ($7-9 million per year).

true. but I think a.) Whatever contract he gets this offseason is going to be mostly based on what he can do versus what he's already done. b.) Is kind of a foregone conclusion - DA was afraid to lose Perk for nothing, it's doubtful he wouldn't bring him back.

That is my thinking too ... $40 million over 5 years, that is the ball park.

Amazing to me that Jeff Green is worth $7-9 million per year. Just amazing.

With Pierce on the roster:  not worth the cap space.

I find all the posts about Green being the future hilarious.  We weren't gonna sign Perk what makes people think we're gonna mess up our 2012 free agency for this kid?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Why?  He is a heck of a player.  I know we haven't seen much so far, but he has a chance to be a tremendous player in this league, now that he isn't playing out of position.

Agreed -- he hasn't shown enough to be worth that yet ... but I think that is whereabouts he'll be at due to his reputation.

Pierce is 32, he's certainly not the future at this point. Green is 24, he's athletic and can run with Rondo. And newsflash, we're gonna need pieces in place to lure a big free agent in 2012 other than just Rondo.

Also, the main reason we weren't gonna sign Perk is because Danny's targeting Dwight Howard - a center - in 2012.

There is no way that Jeff Green is "the" future. He may be part of the future, but in my opinion, this guy is not someone around whom you build a team.

I don't think Jeff Green is talented enough to sway anyone into signing here.

(my expectations are for him to be a 12-14ppg scorer at SF with above average defense and solid rebounding)

we don't have to mess up the future cap space to get him. If he is signed for 8-10 under the current cba we would be at around 40 mil with

rondo
bradley
pp
green

on the roster

That would leave us about 20 mil in cap space more than enough for a max contract.

If the new CBA makes the salary cap go down we will sign green for between 6-8 mil per year.

Dannyh didn't trade Perk just to rent green for a few months, get real.

Well, I guess your thoughts on his value fall in line with your expectations of him.

From my perspective, I see a young guy who can score the ball (he's better in the post, with his back to the basket than I expected) who played out of position in OKC. It seems that he's a natural small forward who can play effective at power forward for short stretches - but it wasn't possible for him to do that because no one is gonna play him over Kevin Durant.

He's always had nice potential, and I think he has a fresh start here in Boston. Is he "the" future? Probably not. But he can be a nice complimentary piece moving forward.

I agree. Hopefully, the C's can use him for this year, then sign and trade him for more value.
