  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Knowing Baby he might start complaining about minutes if they start to dip. I think it all depends on Murphy's defense and ability to play center. Defense will determine how long he stays on the floor and his ability to play center will determine how much of a hit Baby's minutes will take.

Murphy was a 15/10 player just last year. Its debatable that Murphy is better then BBD, he is also taller and longer then BBD.

Baby is better defensively which is what the Celtics value most. So we shall see.

I really like that we have alot of offensive options now. We are a versitile team, that can score and defend. Im loving it so far.

I loved Perk, but he was a disaster on offense and a non-factor, he was also slow and unathletic, all of those traits are hard to live with in the long run. We got better on offense by leaps and bounds, and our defense should still be solid.

If Perkins is slow and unathletic, Murphy is a paralytic.

That's why I'm not very optimistic about Murphy eating Davis minutes. He's too bad of a defender; he'd need to be in great form offensively.

I really don't want Murphy/Davis on the floor together for prolonged minutes.

I don't think the two of them complement each other well much like Sheed/BBD last year.

Hopefully the Murphy pickup lights a spark under BBD, though.
Me either, the pairings should go like this:
KG/Shaq
Murphy/JO (if healthy)
Baby/Krstic

With Green/KG closing out games.  Solid enough rotation that we can let Shaq and JO alternate games to alleviate soreness or better yet rest them both until April.

Also it's nice to have all your frontcourt players able to hit the long jumpers (except Shaq, JO can at least hit the 12 footers until he regains his range, if ever).
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Who isn't better defensively playing for the Celtics?  Big part of the reason I've always thought Perk and BBD were overated.  If Murphy wants to play Celtics defense.  It might be the end of BBD in Boston.

Huh? I agree that it won't be a cakewalk to leapfrog Baby in the rotation given the rust and learning curve facing him, but how in the world does Murphy come out unfavorably in an athletic comparison with the modern day Perk?!?

Murphy's slow laterally, short-armed (for a big) and has poor reaction speed defensively (Perk has him beat here), but his basic athletic skillset far surpasses Perk's.  Perk shambles up and down the floor, takes 5 seconds to finish an uncontested dunk, and makes beeping noises when he backs up.  Troy Murphy can run full speed, make a clean catch in motion, stop on a dime and nail a 3-pointer.
