I doubt Ainge planned on Brewer being bought out. With Green aboard, it makes it a little harder for Brewer to choose the C's. That said, I wonder of Ainge still makes the Perk deal knowing what he knows right now. Which is Murphy supposedly leaning towards Miami and the aforementioned Brewer now available.

I strongly doubt the Perk deal was made gambling that Troy Murphy would be available for a buyout.

Ainge thought Shaq and JO would be ready for the playoffs and Krstic would be great as a 3rd string big, making Perk expendable.  When he found out he could get the 3/4 the team had been missing since Posey, he jumped.

If anything, he made the trade because he didn't want to depend on buyouts to fill the void behind Pierce as he did with Michael Finley last year.  So he traded 1 of his 3 injury-plagued starting-quality centers for a healthy 3rd string big and a legitimate back-up 3/4.

That all may be true, but I don't think you can underestimate the contract issue.  If Perk's deal had lasted one more season and expired when Ray and KG's do, I can't imagine that Ainge would have made this trade.  That he was faced with either paying Perk at least $40 million over 4 years, letting him walk for nothing or trading him and having to take back 10 million a year contracts may have been the biggest single reason for the swap.

I love Danny, but if I had to guess I'd say Riley was the better smooth talker.

Jermaine O'Neal is cooked. Shaq may play 15 minutes per game if his health holds. Krstic is depth to use in case of foul trouble. And we need a better rebounder and someone who can stretch the floor to take over Big Baby's minutes. On the other hand, Miami will play Bosh 40 minutes per night and they'll have Dampier, Haslem - who, btw, is on the verge of coming back - and Joel Anthony paired with him for defensive purposes.

This is what Ainge needs to tell Troy Murphy. Once he's signed, we'll see what happens.

jajaja  ::)

I thinked the same
because his signing is strategic not because what he bring us but because what he brings NOT to Miami
Hopefully we will tie him and then he will hate us
because i really hope
Shaq, Jo and Kristic outplay him on center position
not to mention KG and BBD at PF
but i really sing is an adiction by sustraction(from the other team)

I think you got it.   I'd hope that joining a mature team is important to Troy and I'd hope that the idea of having opportunities to earn minutes -- which he WILL have in Boston -- would be appealing.   The next 3 weeks can establish Troy Murphy as a rotation player on this team, if he earns it.

While Riley is a smooth talker, I could see Danny connecting more with Murphy.  Either way, I would LOVE to hear those two pitches, and even if I had already made up my mind, I would make those calls just for the fun of having those guys trying to sell me.

How about a call from KG, Paul, Ray?   I don't think Murphy is the be all and end all for this season, but a call from one of the vets -- his age peers(ish), might help.

Riley is Gordon Gecko. Wait a minute, why did Riley never end up in jail, man nearly ruined basketball with his thugball in Miami and NY. Troy, I'm telling you don't listen to him.

Danny took a huge gamble by trading Erden and Gody in order to free up spots hoping that they land some experienced and more talented vets and now he must live with those choices.

If I was Murphy I'd go to the Heat just because he'll look at the acquisitions of Green and Krstic and think to himself "how much time will I see on the floor" He plays the 4/5 spot where we have KG, Shaq, JO, Davis, Green and Krstic in. There could be a chance he'd start or at the very least be the 6th man on the Heat.

As a Celtics fan I hope we get him cause we need his experience... I'd rather not rely on d-league guys like Johnson and whoever else to get us to 18.

I'd be psyched to get Murphy, but I'm not feeling too desperate about it, even though I usually harp on depth......If he lands in Miami I'm also not too worried.  I guess he's just not a player who worries me all that much one way or the other.......We're healthier than we were a week ago, and we've got space for depth whoever it may be.....

Baby and KG can play some center too now that we've got Green.....
