reading that Brewer might go to the Cavs, as they can offer the most money to him. Odd, I would have thought he'd come to the C's to play for a title.

if he was smart he could should go to boston, dal or SA. He will be in the national spotlight in the playoffs and if he plays well he will earn a decent contract in the off-season, just like Posey and Ariza

I feel sorry for him if he gets stuck in cleveland

The guy's young and far less wealthy than the various veteran buyouts that come to contenders for cheap.

Where are you reading this?

I saw this today too. Hoopshype maybe? They still have $3.5 million to spend somehow and are interested.

Why would Roger Mason Jr. accept a negotiated buy out? If he's not willing to accept a buy out, to leave money on the table, why would the Knicks release him? They waived Azubuike instead, a completely useless player (even more useless than Mason).

Brewer requested a buy out because D'Antoni told him he had no plans of using him and NY agreed to save some money and as a favor to Brewer's agent.

Roger Mason makes $1.4M this year, barely above the league minimum, and he's expiring.  New York could have just waived Roger Mason and it hardly would have made a difference.

I don't know how muc $$ Brewer left on the table with his buyout, but he was making ~$3.7M this year, also expiring.  Figuring that Brewer probably didn't walk away from THAT much money (he probably walked away from whatever the pro-rata vet min is for the last 20 or so games, so maybe a couple hundred thousand).  I don't think NY saved a lot of money by buying Brewer out instead.

I don't get D'Antoni.  Just don't get him.  Brewer's a legit rotation player, if you're serious about making a playoff push, why wouldn't you want him around to help defend Pierce/Allen and LeBron/Wade?

Why waive Mason anyway? Azubuike can't play at all, so it makes sense to release him to make space for Jeffries.

Brewer isn't being bought out to open a spot; it's a favor to his agent and in the process they don't need to pay his salary.

I'd think he'd want to come to a contender right now.  He'd not be leaving all that much money on the table, plus he'd get a playoff share too.  Cleveland will still have plenty of money this summer.  In fact, they won't be getting any A-listers to go there, so Brewer could easily take their money this summer.

Can't understand why the Nix kept Shelden Williams instead of Brewer...unless he wanted out.  Shel lacks the hands/IQ/full-court game to play in NY...possibly the worst fit for him.

Sam Amick is running with this, also as another poster has mentioned hoops hype also had this earlier. Goes against what the previous notion of 3 teams in the mix. The Amick info was found off another board.

Can't blame him for going for cash.  But man he would have to not mind losing to go to Cleveland, a city rich in the tradition of losing.  I lived in Ohio for 37 years of my life.

Actually Shelden did ok in some games in Denver this year.

Points 14 vs. Phoenix 11/28/10
Field Goals Made 4 9 Times
Field Goals Attempted 11 vs. Utah 10/27/10 13
Three Point Field Goals Made None
Three Point Field Goals Attempted None 2
Free Throws Made 6 vs. Phoenix 11/28/10
Free Throws Attempted 8 vs. Phoenix 11/28/10
  Offensive Rebounds 7 2 Times
  Defensive Rebounds 9 2 Times
Total Rebounds 16 vs. Utah 10/27/10
  Assists 2 3 Times
  Steals 4 @ Minnesota 12/29/10
  Blocks 3 @ Portland 11/18/10
  Minutes Played 33 2 Times

Not world breaking but not horrible either and better than he did with us as we have more talent.  Averaging 4.7 PPG and 5.3 RPGin 17 min per game.

if it's the Mavs, I heard they are indeed interested but not a good fit for Brewer, I was following a bunch of twitter after class and it seems like a number of sources stated that Brewer is LEANING towards Boston

but after reading Brewer's actual twitter, it seems like hes still considering his options...

These are the relevant tweets by Amick:

http://twitter.com/sam_amick

# Cavs came with strong offer, and Brewer isn't only looking at contenders. Wants resolution soon though.

# Source says Corey Brewer has "12 or 13 options" after being waived by NY, among them Dallas, San Antonio, Cleveland and
New Orleans.

He will have opportunities in the future to play for a title if he wants to give up money. Right now he needs minutes to develop for the sake of future contracts.

Could be a great fit for our team. West is really a backup for Rondo and Von Wafer project has been a failure. Brewer is like a taller Tony Allen. Tenacious defender

Brewer could also reunite with his old buddies Al Horford or Joakim Noah.

My prediction is the Bulls will have the best chance to grab him and also lock him up for the long term. They are a good young upcoming team and he is good friends with Noah

With the celtics he is running a risk being buried into the bench and backtracking his career, especially having a guy like doc as his coach

Why? I was thinking that he should join the Celtics or the Spurs because of the coaching staff and working environment. I think it may be worth the risk of playing less minutes.
