If I can play devil's advocate for a second:

Can you imagine the beating the Celtics will take if they have to play Dwight Howard, Chicago and then Los Angeles if Shaq and JO do not come back healthy?

Would you pin your entire playoff run on Perk standing up to that beating for 30+ minutes in every game of the postseason without any recurrence of injury?

I'd rather bank on that than have to go with Krstic...

Honestly, how often have you seen him play? How many games have you seen him play with the Celts? Shouldn't they at least have to lose a game with Krstic as the starting center before you give up on the season?

I would think having Krstic as your only C going into the playoffs is far worse than Paul Pierce having to lock up guys he plays on a regular basis.

See it works both ways.

Further, its not like the Celtics only option was to move Perkins, they could of moved a player and gotten help for Pierce without trading Perkins.   Perkins deal was financial, not bc DA wanted to move Perkins.

You have to give this trade at least a month before we
If Krstic is our only center over 7ft, then yes, we will have some trouble.  But Murphy would help that.  And I trust that DA feels confortable that one or both of the O'Neals will be there when we need them.

But you are leaving out one name, especially when it comes to Howard.  This move tells me that DA and Doc trust BBD to gaurd some of those big guys.  If you have been watching, you'll remember that Baby does a pretty good job of guarding taller guys.  And if we do face Orl, we will see plenty of BBD on Howard (and I am perfectly confortable with it).

The Magic are a nonfactor since they made the terrible Turkaglu / Richardson / Arenas trades.  Who cares if Howard blows up for 30 and 20.  The rest of his team stinks.

haven't given up on the season at all....if Shaq and JO can contribute and Sheed makes a return, I'd feel a lot better than I do now...

I just generally feel (given all the unknowns at the moment) that the best path back to the Title was where we were prior to the trade...

Are you really anxious to see what Sheed looks like with no training camp, no preseason, and no regular season to get into shape with?

I'd rather have Sheed play IN the recliner he's been sittin' in than count on Krstic to defend DH, Lebron, Bynum, Gasol, etc...

I (sports hate) Sheed with a passion. I can't stand the guy and never could.

That said, he could be someone we need in the end. He's played with us before and knows the system and for some strange reason the players and staff like him.

And even if he's fat and out of shape he will probably hold up better then some of our other big guys.

What were their chances of making it through all of that, O'Neals healthy--if they hadn't added Green?  Not very good, I'd say.

Danny deserves great credit for this difficult trade.

Well I've always had a little basketball crush on that team because of Durant (thinking he was the guy DA would have picked with 1 or 2)...

  • Be the posts you wish to see in the world.
Not much to say on the main topic, but it's really strange after watching almost every game last year to see so many people now wishing that Sheed would come back.  It's like stepping into Bizarro CelticsBlog or something.  I guess time really does heal all wounds.
