He wants a long term deal with a team that can contend, the Thunder are an excellent team for him.

They likely would have been very interested in signing him had the C's kept him.

It's a good team and it's a lot closer to home. Plus, it means the Heat won't get him. Win-win-win.

The Thunder can offer him a 4 years/$36 millions extension right away. If he wants to avoid being worried about what the new CBA may bring, he may sign one with them right away.

The Thunder are bound by the same 4 year, $23.4 million contract limit that the Celtics were.  In free agency, though, OKC is a good fit for Perk.

So... they can't sign him to whatever they want through Birds-rights once he hits the open market? Is there plan to  use actual cap space?

I hope so, he is a great fit for that team and will be in a good position to win for years to come. Since he will no longer be with the Celtics, I'm glad OKC is his top choice. I'd be sick if he went to the Heat.

Thought this was a good quote too:

Quote
“I’m excited about being here,” Perkins told reporters, “I just wish I could play against the Lakers.”

Perkins says he focuses in on something he doesn’t like about every opponent he goes up against. “I know it’s petty, but it’s just what I do. I think about that all day on game days.”

So reporters took the bait. "What is it you don’t like about (Lakers forward) Pau Gasol?"

“Everything,” replied the Thunder’s new man-in-the-middle, “Everything.”

This budding rivalry between the Thunder and the Lakers is about to come into full bloom.

i think this is what perk wants luckily for him he was traded to a contender filled with youngsters and to be a veteran presence in the locker room well in the okc locker room he's probably regarded as a veteran. he's near texas now and okc is willing to spend for him they could offer him more when hes a free agent more than the c's could so yeah i see him as a long term thunder

That's in free agency which isn't until July.  He's talking about what they can sign him to today.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Perk atleast went to a good team...DA deserves some credit for that.

Exactly! OKC is a VERY good team...Durant is loyal, a great teammate, and well-liked. He just signed an extension.

Westbrooke is - IMO - a top 6-7 PG. He will be there a while. Perk will have another young shot-blocker with him in Serge.

They will contend for many years. Perk will anchor that defense and bring Championship experience to them.

A perfect scenario for Boston is that LA meets OKC in the playoffs...has to deal with their youth...has to deal with the physical Nick Collison and Perkins...has to deal with a roaming Serge Ibaka....take LA to 7 games and then let them have to travel to Boston a day or two later to face the Celtics.

Agree with everything you said. Perk, Ibaka, Durant and Westbrook is a very good core. However, imo, they still need another scorer before they can beat LA.

I was thinking the same thing, BFM(TP4U when I can).

OKC had to trade their 3rd scoring option to us, as well as some scoring from Nenad. Hopefully, Harden can step up.

Yea, too much pressure on Durant and Westbrook to carry the load for a whole series. A lineup of Westbrook, Sefolosha, Durant, Ibaka, and Perk is a very nice defensive lineup but so so on offense. Wouldn't be surprised if Harden moves into the starting lineup over Sefolosha.
