On Thursday, the day of the trade, I got into my car at Dennis Highlands after 18 holes of paradise after being cooped up all winter on the North Shore.
I turned on the radio, and all hell was breaking loose on 850 and 98.5. People were screaming at the talk jocks about the stupidity of the trade. Oblivious to what was going on, I called my son who was in a computer lab at his college.
I blurted out to him, "What the heck happened? They traded Perk?" He then told me the details of the trade and I was dumbfounded. Then I listened for the next 2 solid hours on my way home to both 850 and 98.5 and almost every caller (95% conservatively) and all but one talk jock of the 5 or 6 they had on and experts thought Danny had lost his mind.
This same sentiment permeated this blog all day Thursday and Friday. The poll that was taken here was overwhelmingly against the trade. (66% to 33% or thereabouts).(I won't say how I voted, but my posts are pretty clear about my position, which, after the initial shock and visceral reaction, hasn't changed and has only become more affirmed).
This trade has caused great divisions on this board. Emotions are still high. Both sides are getting real righteous. Lots of sniping and vitriol amongst ourselves.
The anti-trade people can't believe that the pro-trade people would turn on one of their own in KP, someone who has bled and sweated green his whole career.
The pro-trade people can't believe that the anti-trade people can't see the obvious merits of the trade both now and in the future, given KP's impending free agency and durability issues now and in the future.
Hyperbole rules the day. Posts with inflammatory, sarcastic and hyperbolic titles like this one and the other sides "Potentially one of the best trades in Cs history" underscore all of our passions for one thing we all have in common: the Cs.
Let's celebrate that and not all this other bullEdited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.. (Sorry, I'm impassioned!!!)
