Love the man, but the player is insanely overrated around here.
Leon Powe, Bill Walker and Tony Allen's departure got more people riled up on this blog than Perk's....so, I guess we overrate all our players.

And clearly he is overrated by Sam Presti and Dwight Howard and the other coaches and centers who have claimed that Perk is the toughest defender in the middle for them to play against. It was just so disheartening listening to the calls today. My son finally had to shut the radio off, because it was actually making us both sad.

I had to be in the car for four hours and got to listen to just about every caller on the SportHub talk about how Perk stinks, Perk meant nothing to the celtics, Perk can't score (Um, Celts don't need scoring from their center), etc.

The simple question is this -- where were all of the Perk haters prior to Thursday's trade?

I guess we've been listening to different shows on the same station. I've heard nothing on the radio but callers and hosts killing Danny for the trade.

Listened to Shaugnessy today and two guys I never head of before. It was call after call saying things like good riddance Perk, he is so overrated, he brought nothing to the Celtics, and so on. It simply was disheartening to hear.

Perk's d this year was a shell of his play before.  Admit it.  Hell BBD played Howard better on Super Bowl sunday than Perk did.  I think Howard torched Perk for 24 points in the first half.  Doc went with BBD in second half on DH.

I been there since Day 1.  I thought Boston fans overrated him tremendously.  Boston fans love him because he came cheap and was blue collar lunch pail guy.  Boston fans love "dirt dogs".  It takes a full year to come back from an ACL and now he has an MCL issue.  Put it this way do you still love Perk at 8 or 9 Mil a year?  Didnt think so.

Imagine your an OKC fan and your team trades 40% of its starting line-up and in return gets a 5'9 bench shooting guard and a 6'10 center coming off major knee reconstructive surgery and now has a sprained MCL and is unavailable for 3 weeks. Oh yeah to boot you give up a top 10 protected 1st round pick in 2012. Exactly! Brilliant move DA.

Way to go DA way to go.  Foresight man!

You are right, Danny totally swindled Sam Presti out in OKC. It is clear from his team that Presti has no clue what he is doing.  ::)
Love the sarcasm.  Perk will not be himself this whole year.  Takes  a year to come back from an ACL and on top of that he is a big guy which means even more diffiuclt to come back.  The only reason he came back this quickly was because its his "walk" year.  I would not be surprised if he has to shut it down.  If Perk walks then yes Presti got taken.

And if Jeff Green walks?
Green is a restricted free agent while Perk is unrestricted.  Celts can match.  Big difference.

Realize that. Talking about after next season (depending on what happens with the CBA and the lockout of course.)

Perk is now out for another 2-3 weeks. So...yeah. Even if he comes back, it'll still take him some time to get used to his new teammates. I think this trade works out for everybody...if Perk can get healthy-ish (which I'm not so sure about anymore...the MCL was an accidental hit, but it's still a hit) and Shaq and JO do the same (Shaq, I'm pretty confident about...JO, less so).

You can only go by what you know the situation is currently.  The Celts pretty much can guarantee bringing Green back if they match while OKC can't do that with Perk.  Advantage DA not Presti.

Does anyone else find it interesting that Perk is out 2-3 weeks? What did the Celts say after his recent injury?

First -- it is a knee bruise and he might be able to play the next game.

Second -- it is a knee strain and he will miss the rest of the road trip.

Real story -- Knee SPRAIN and out 2-3 weeks.

Again -- I never believe anything the Celtics tell us about injuries, which is why I have no faith in what we are hearing about Shaq and JO.

Great move by the Celts and DA.  Why give away his injury status if you're moving him.  Thank God Perk passed the physical!

At this point, everything's knee jerk.  Some people's knee jerk reaction is to bitterly defend Perk.  For others, they want to defend the move because they want to convince themselves the season won't go south.

It's too early to tell what will happen, but one thing I can tell you is that no one knows for sure, not even DA.

Shaugnessy? DAN Shaughnessy? He isn't that curly hair guy that was on Jim Rome this week, is he? Cause he didn't seem happy about the trade. You just mean the fans calling onto his radio show, right?

In a way, it's kinda nice that c's fans overrate perk so much, and are so fiercely loyal to him. Says alot about the kind of fans we have and what we like in our players. We're loyal. Unlike if you go over to lakersgrounds and see multiple threads about trading pau gasol and how he's a bum, even though he's the reason they have won the last two titles (I know the mvp of that team is probably kobe, but where were they before that?). So I'm fine with people thinking perk was more than he was.

Yes, the fans. Dan hates the trade.

heard the exact opposite on weei

Honestly, I was checking the replacement show for Dale and Holley the morning after the trade and all I heard about was Logan Mankins. Unrelated, but Egads.
