Sucks for Perk, I hope it's not too serious.

But yeah, makes you wonder of bad we would have been without the trade since we would be playing for 2 weeks at least (assuming Shaq comes back next week) without any center...

Imagine your an OKC fan and your team trades 40% of its starting line-up and in return gets a 5'9 bench shooting guard and a 6'10 center coming off major knee reconstructive surgery and now has a sprained MCL and is unavailable for 3 weeks. Oh yeah to boot you give up a top 10 protected 1st round pick in 2012. Exactly! Brilliant move DA.

Yup - with this injury on top of everything else there was a good chance Perk wouldn't be 100% all year.  Combined with a GM with a superfluous talented young 3 and a major hole at center, it was really not a difficult move on paper. 

But off paper, I'm worried about how this trade affects morale.  The team thrived on the "us against the world" mentality, and Perk was a part of that inner core that had been through it all.  He was the missing piece in Game 7, and he'll be a missing piece all playoffs now.  I hope the team can rally through it and move forward, but this was a big emotional setback at the least.

The irony is that the only way we have a chance of getting him back is if he is injured (damaged goods). Otherwise, we can't afford him. For his sake, I hope that doesn't happen.

The misfortune of Perk's injury, however, should underscore what many on this blog who have been supporters of the trade, either from the beginning or after the shock/emotion of losing Perk subsided enough to rationally evaluate the trade have considered as the major factor in doing this deal: the uncertainty of Perk's health and his durability for this year and beyond, but especially this year, if we are supposed to be "all in" as we all have bought into and believe should be.
