Many Celtics fans didn't like the Kendrick Perkins-Nate Robinson trade to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic.

But remove emotion from the equation, look at the move from a purely basketball standpoint and Danny Ainge added some talent to Boston's roster -- especially with Green, who is averaging 15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 49 games as a starter for Oklahoma City this season.

"We are pleased to welcome Jeff and Nenad to the Celtics," said Ainge. "Jeff is a versatile talent on the offensive end and someone who can play multiple positions while Nenad, who is one of the better shooting big men in the league, gives us good size and length on both ends of the court."

Green was drafted out of Georgetown by the Celtics with the fifth overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft. He then was traded to the Seattle Supersonics with Delonte West and Wally Szczerbiak for Ray Allen and Glen Davis.

Green is only 24 and has averaged 14.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 289 career games

So saying goodbye to Perkins and Robinson isn't all bad. Green could end up becoming a star in Boston.

We came out on top with this trade... lets just say thank you Russel Westbrook for de-valuing Jeff Green for us.  Otherwise we don't get this player.

15.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 49 games as a starter for Oklahoma City this season.

but he's not going to put up those numbers in Boston, where he'll be playing ~10mins less per game.

Instead, he'll put up numbers that look more like Jared Dudley's (10 pts, 3.5 rbs...).

Not saying I don't like the trade, but  I'm just trying to point out some of the inconsistencies I see when people either go pro or against the trade.
Celtics fan for life.

Green will play a lot of minutes at the 4 with KG at the 5. a potent offensive combo.

Green will give rondo another ally oop partner.

i can see a kg bbd green pierce rondo line up working as well.

we are a better team after this trade.

While I love (and share in) your enthusiasm, don't forget that Shelden Williams was a top 5 pick as well.

But never looked as a player in the NBA. Green does.

TP

I was wondering how many other people might feel this way.  Jeff Green is underappreciated because of the guys he was playing with.  He is a way better anchor for our second unit than Marquis or TA ever were and can play with with the starters in any of 3 positions.  This is particularly important on the defensive end.

I hate losing Perk as much as anyone, but Danny had to make a very tough call according to what the owners could bear to pay this off-season.  Perk was going to test the FA wates and somebody was going to overpay.  All things considered, we came out in good shape by filling our biggest need on the wing.

Don't forget that we just received a first round pick from the Clips.  Personally, I'm thinking that Ainge has his sites squarley on Jimmer.

I'm not sayin i'm psychic or anything, but you could just look at shelden williams and tell he was going to suck. That huge head, undersized frame. I Could have told you when he was in college that he wouldnt be a good nba player.

Jeff Green on the other hand looks the part and is the real deal. Don't get it twisted, the guy is a small forward, he just happened to be on a team with one of the top 3 SFs in the league so he was put at the 4. Thats a good thing! he's big enough to play the 4, athletic enough to play the three. He's a young kid who's been on a team with 2 superstars already so he knows his role is still going to be limited for a while and that shouldn't be a problem.

Krstic is our new 5, KG and BBD will also be playin the 5, so Green is gonna get minutes at the 3 and 4 for us. He gives us something at the 4 that we dont have in KG and BBD and an amazing backup for PP.

You all do realize that if we sign Troy Murphy we're gonna be sooooo deep right?

The only thing I dont agree with was trading Semih. Unless we sign someone better I think having him around in the regular season would have helped us.
But Danny is clearly plannin on signing 2 guys, so i'm sure one of them will have some size.
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.

Yeah hes putting up 15 and 6 in 37 minutes a game as a starter in OKC. (While shooting 30% from three and 43% from the field i might add.) He isnt going to be playing 37 minutes a game here. He might be lucky to play, what, 15 a game? Unless Baby is going to be playing a bunch of Center (which is a bad idea), Green wont be putting up big numbers or big minutes.

Not going to happen

what is "not going to happen"?
the KG green frontcourt tandem?
green won't throw down rondo's ally oops?
we won't see KG PP J Green BBD and rondo on the court at the same time?
we won't get better by adding an above average 6'9 swing forward
in exchange for a non factor in nate and a player who has not contributed to the second best record in the league?

I agree. Both Danny and Doc clearly said so yesterday, saying that Green will give them the ability to do what they had done with Posey and go with KG at the 5. They both feel that this is the best lineup for Rondo and the team as a whole. I thought it was clear considering Perk and Shaq never closed out games and we had to suffer through Glen Davis taking big shots.

The Celtics also received cash and a 2012 first-round pick that was previously owned by the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the deal.  Jimmer is coming out in 2011.

I was shocked to read about this trade (few minutes ago!!) at first but then find the trade absolutely brilliant!

OK, Perkins is a big piece of the team as he has been there a long time, but a) his constant injuries and b) contract situation was most certainly the best way to deal with. Besides, he leaves us injured while we get two ready-to-play guys. Ironic!

Nate Robinson was a player that I never thought would stay at Boston but we got a fair deal from Oklahoma with him as part of the deal.

The rest of the players (Marquis, Erden and Harangody) are players that just added little width to the squad and we can live without. Having said that, we lost width which we need to get back by filling up the 3 roster spots we have left open with players out of contract (Leon Powe?).
Good luck to incoming/outgoing players.
In Danny Ainge I Trust!
