I like this trade. I love Perk, BUT:

1. In Green, we get a 3/4 who is long, athletic and versatile: our new 6th man. Don't underestimate him and Doc loves him and while he is good now, still has upside.

2. Aside from the possibility of not signing Perk next year and probably losing him for nothing to a team like OKC who would be able to pay him a ton (and we get Green), there was absolutely no guaranty that Perk was going to be durable enough this year for us to count on him. And, unlike Green, Perk has reached his ceiling, and physically may be headed downhill.

3. Perk, while a better than average defender, was that in a large sense because of KG (not the other way around) and the defensive system we employ.

4. Kristic, while not a great individual defender, has enough mobility to play decent help defense in our system.

5. Except for the Magic and the Lakers (and I don't think they make the Finals)this makes us stronger match-up wise with the Heat, Bulls, Spurs and Mavs.

Very good to excellent move by Danny. I was really craving for days for a Jeff Green trade to replace Quisy. Though I was also wishing  to get Mullens and Mo Pete too. At any rate Danny now creates a great puzzle for other contenders to solve.
What with the 3 roster spots to be filled up, teams could only guess and DA has put them and the media men watching and focusing on us once again. Contenders in the West, like LAL, will be in off balance situation now because OKC just added beef in their lineup (Perk and Nazr).

Now we have a tall, quick, young, athletic and skilled SF to back up PP and to guard tall, young SFs like Lebron, Melo, KD, Deng, etc. He and Krstic will benefit a lot from our system. I believe they will be more productive.

It makes total sense for the Thunder ... Perk is a perfect fit for them, and they have now become a very formidable opponent. It doesn't make as much sense for us now, but I think down the road we may feel differently ... I hope so. ???

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Green is expiring so we pay or he walks. So the long term implications of this deal aren't yet clear.

The pick is top ten protected til 2016. So its not exactly super valuable.

Nate was thrown in the deal despite us already giving up the greater value and fit. We basically gave away Perk who happens to be exactly what okc wanted/needed.

IMO, OKC just robbed us.

I'd have to say that:

1) The team managed okay (2nd best record in league) with Perk on the shelf for the 1st half-season.  I think we can manage this year.  Shaq's probably just saving it for when it counts, with management approval.  Might we get 10 minutes from JO in the playoffs?  Perhaps.  And then there are buyouts. It doesn't take an all-NBA defender to clothesline Lebron in the paint, does it?

2) I sure as heck like a Rondo/Green pairing on the break a lot more than a Rondo/Perk one.  Green is, perhaps, a better piece for the future.

Shock wearing off...I'm okay.  Sure, at this rate I'll be loaded by gametime, but I'm okay.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
I loved having Perk and will always be a fan, but to say our championship hopes were hinged on #43 is absolutely insane. How many games did we win without him this season?? He wouldn't even be on the floor in the final 6 minutes of the fourth quarter against pretty much any team. No offense, but rub the green out of your eyes, people! Jeff Green can play--I thought he was pretty effective playing out of position and along side Durant & Westbrook, who are the clear stars of that team.

The team managed because Shaq played at a pretty high level during the first 30 games or so. I predict you will see what the absence of Perkins means to the C's very shortly.

The C's had a big advantage with depth at Center compared to other teams. That advantage is now gone. I don't think this team can get to the finals let alone win a title.

Perhaps. But most Celtics fans say that we'd won the Finals last year if Perk was playing. So who's replaced him now? The O'neal's?  If we have to hope that they can play for 4 rounds of the playoffs then I'm not so sure it can happen.

And what's this going to do to team chemistry?

I love Perk, but I have to respond here that we don't need to predict what not having Perk is like, since he missed most of the season.  Hard to say whether we would have won game 7 with him.  I think a clear case could be made that if Sheed would have been in shape, the back spasms would have been fewer and perhaps he doesn't run out of gas, and the C's win...equally plausible.  If the team doesn't go on a scoring drought, we win as well.  It wasn't really just one thing that Perk was the remedy for.

Also, this idea that we have/had depth at center really indicates that we bought the BS that the team was selling.  Sure, we had four 7-footers (plus KG).  How many were healthy?  Absolutely none.  Could that be expected?  Well, I'd say that in 3/4 cases, yes (leaving out only Erden).  So the depth was a charade all along, and we should have known that.

We obviously have a hole (unless a miracle restores JO to health), but we just might be a better team with Green than with Perk.

Miami didn't stand in our way last season

EDIT:  Oh yeah, they did, haha.  But that was the miami HEAT, not the miami heatles.
