Everyone all together now: Rip already turned down a chance to become a free agent via a buyout.

Its all about the conditions, he can still make it
a chance isnt the only chance

Nobody yell at me, but we do have enough roster spots to experiment with a big like Courtney Sims or Sean Williams from the D-League if we don't get many buy out options. Obviously neither would do as well as they are in the D-league (or even close), but either may be able to play some minutes, rebound, defend a little and finish when open. Williams may finally have his head on and is putting together a 14.5/9.5/3.5 block season on .584 shooting and obviously has size. Sims is a guy who should probably be a bench NBA big soon, with a 17.1/9.8/1.1 blocks.

Not ideal, but good useful players do come out of the d-league.

Earl Barron could be an option now?
Interesting thoughts.  Like Barron idea.  Don't think Sean Williams has the mental game to play on the Celtics.

Murphy, Barron, Kapono?

There is absolutely no guarantee that the Celtics will sign Troy Murphy.

You're right.  But I give Danny enough credit to assume he wouldn't make these moves without being very confident in picking Murphy up.  We'll see, though.

Exactly.ainge had his ducks in a line before he made the deals

I hope not. Any contact with Murphy before he officially got bought out and became a free agent is considered tampering.

I wouldn't want Sheed if he could pay us to play ... no way. He was half-hearted about being on this team originally, and coming back from retirement would be a waste of time for him and us. Never liked the guy or his attitude ... in green or out.

You're right, but we both know that stuff happens pretty frequently, especially with buyout guys.  And I definitely prefer it to the thought that he has no idea, because there isn't one other big out there that I'd prefer to Semih.

What people should remember is that come playoff time, the rotation shortens.

If Shaq OR Jermaine are healthy, we have a GREAT 8 man rotation, our starting five with Delonte, Green, and Baby off the bench. Best 8 in the league, easily.

If Shaq and Jermaine are healthy, we have a GREAT 9.

And that's without any buyout players, where we'll certainly add at least one or two. Say we add Murphy and JO can't give us anything at all. We still have a great 9 man rotation.

Stein says:

"Buyout near-locks: T. Murphy, T.J. Ford, Jared Jeffries, Kapono. We'll see on Przybilla. Mike Bibby? Harder w/extra season left on contract"

I'll have Murphy, Ford, and Jeffries, please.  Wouldn't mind Pryzbilla either.

Sorry, Edgar. But this was Rip's only chance at a buyout, because the Pistons have said they won't do it.

Any combination of three of those four would be like hitting the lottery.  I like Ford because a backup pure pg to pair with Dwest at the 2 would be ideal.

I would have to think that Shaq and Jermaine are recovering nicely for Ainge to pull the trigger on this one.  He also probably thinks he can get Murphy.

I used to be a Courtney Sims fan. But, after watching a couple of his games on NBATV (NBDL), it seems his game does not translate to even a small hint of success. Erden will be definitely missed.

I don't know if this is the venting thread but I just got up here in Au.

What on earth? I really don't like these moves.

Can someone please explain to me the Erden/Luke to CLE for a 2nd rounder trade? I just cannot understand that.

U G H. ugh.

it's to clear roster space. i think it was DA (or maybe Doc? or i forget) who said that they're looking to sign maybe 2 or 3 guys who will be bought out. Marquis Daniels was traded to Sacramento for a 2017 (?!) pick to clear out roster space, and probably save money too.
