To have a chance to win the east and to be taken seriously they must do the following.

1) Grab D.Will, CP3, or Dwight in 2012, odds are that they are going to get CP3 to complete the pact these players made to join together.

2) Get a coach that has a real system that includes defense.

3) Melo+Amare must learn how to play defense.

4) Get a solid bench of role players and a solid 6'11 or 7'0 center.

With all of those things they would be contenders and right around Miamis level.

After looking at their leftover roster, surprisingly it's pretty stacked given their style of play. They could use another big man, maybe a Troy Murphy.

But IMO, if RIP was bought out and passed Boston to go NYC, that could put them over the top.

Landry Fields takes a 6th man role, and you have a starting 5 of

Billups,RIP,Melo,OTHER,Amare

At the PF spot all they need is a rebounder that can hit an open 10 footer - Sheldon Williams, Turiaf. And Shawne Williams has from the run n gun play with this ability to hit the open 3

They're a veteran or 2 away from serious contention in the East. The west is soft outside of the Allstar game. The West will only bring a sketchy Laker squad or aged Spurs.

Really don't think you can consistently plat Amare at the 5. He's not a Center and is a below average rebounder. The Knicks have absolutely no size. They must be the smallest team in the east

By the sounds of the quote, it doesn't sound very popular.

But the premise is right by the Knicks. They need a legit center and atleast 3 bench players (they would get 1 by moving Turiaf to the bench).

Wrong info reported, I guess. I don't know how they can get him either...but Marcus Camby is not a happy man.

..CBS is reporting it as a "failed" deal.

It wasn't clear what pieces the Knicks would've sent to the Trail Blazers in such a scenario, but both sources said Tuesday afternoon that New York's efforts to get Camby appeared to have failed.
