0% Chance.

Why come to Boston with a closed window by 2013 when you can go to New York and join 2 superstars in their prime and be contenders for 5+ years?

I doubt Dwight Howard will go to NY..NY already has 2 kings as of tonight, and Dwight Howard will want to be a king. He's gonna go to LA and with an older, more mellow..er..well just older Kobe..he can probably delude himself into thinking that LA will be his town then.

Yea, LA seems like a nice attraction for him also.

With Dwight coming to Boston it would be because we had blown the team up. KG is pointing to retiring after next season, Piece states hes retiring as soon as KG hangs them up (heard him say it in an interview). Not sure with Ray, he already broke the 3 point record so I dont see what more he could want to accomplish if we werent contending anymore.

Dwight + Rondo and a bunch of roleplayers? That team wouldnt make it out of the second round. LA/NY/ORL would be a much better option for him.

What? What did KG say?? If Howard comes here, KG has three years left, just look at him this year, and Ray looks awesome right now playing the best ball since we got him.
Think here. They don't have to play as much, and they will only have to do what's needed. They just need to show Dwught the Light like it used to be. Pass the torch, then pass the team.

Twilight of his career Shaq? Twilight of his career Rasheed Wallace? Twilight of his career Stephon Marbury? Twilight of his career P.J. Brown? Twilight of his career Gary Payton?

50/50 that Celtics land a 32-year-old Dwight Howard in 2018. And I'll say 70/30 that, barring that, they sign the 37-year-old Howard in 2023.

I guess some people are better at thinking big that others.

After all who would have ever thought two years ago that Wade and Lebron could ever share a basketball to win.

And who would have ever thought someone could pull off two trades and land Garnett, Ray Allen, to go with Pierce.

 Crazy. Just Crazy.

Well, there were a fair amount of people who thought LeBron would go to Miami as soon as LeBron said he was going to switch his # this season from 23 to 6..as 23 has been retired in miami for some time. I wasn't one of those prophets...but they existed.

And there were those who thought KG was coming to Boston well before he did, even after he said explicitly he wouldn't.

But the thing is..you gotta look for key items. Assets to attract (Rondo+who knows), cap space (we'll have it as long as KG and Ray don't re-up)..I mean, its not infeasible, I just don't think it is remotely likely. If it was next year, and we were coming off a deep finals run, even a championship...I'd bite. If we had assurances (which we won't until after the finals next season) that KG, Ray, and Paul would be back in a form that resembles their play this season, but at vet min contracts..I'd say it was likely.

But for all those things to happen in two seasons, I just don't see it.

If Dwight were smart, then he would consider coming to Boston. Whenever I watch the Magic play it astounds me the number of times Jameer and the rest of the miss Dwight wide open in the paint. That has to be frustrating. LA has no pure PG while we have the top assist man in the game in Rondo.

Plus his head coach will not be Phil Jackson, but his replacement (probably Brian Shaw). Why would he want to spend his prime with a rookie coach when he could have a top 3 coach in Doc.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, I'm just saying don't count us out yet.

I would love to see DH in green...but Dwight will have to be highly intoxicated when Danny speaks to him if he is to sign here. We just won't/don't have enough assets to acquire him. Everything is against Boston...the assets, team-mates (if KG and Ray retire and/or are not good bench players), market size, glamour, weather.

I'm not sure that Rondo alone will be sufficient to entice a big name FA like DH.

I'm saying that Celtics have a 30% chance we land Howard.

 Lakers 50% chance.

It was the house that Dwight bulit, and the place where J rich, Turk, Nelson will play.

Just like Carmelo, Dwight will have to leave town to win Rings.

Lakers really do seem older and less likely to be a title contender for very long.

We have a young Star in Rodo that's gets better every year.

And three Legends that are aging like fine wines.

Imagine all the People just for a moment.

Perk would be out of the picture, but just for one year to have.
 Dwight  Shaq Semih
 Kevin   Baby
 Pierce  Luke Quis
 Allen   Von
 Rondo   Nate
Are you aware that Dwight will not be a free agent this upcoming season? How would he ever get to play with Shaq?

If you are thinking of a sign and trade next season when Shaq and KG would still be around, who are we trading to match Howard's $16m+ contract?

Also, there will be a new CBA. It is very possible that he would lose a bucket load of $ if he exercises his early termination clause after next season depending on upcoming salary restrictions. That would mean another year before free agency.

On a side note, how did Luke end up as a 3? Even when we are ridiculously shorthanded, does Luke ever play the 3?

What interview was this that pierce said he'd retire when KG retires? When was this?

Just gotta say that it's my ultimate pet peeve when people speak in definites or say there is a 0% chance of something happening when that is not true. In that dreaded '06-07 season, if a thread was made saying "what are the chances that we win the championship next season?", there'd be multiple 0% answers. And they'd have been dead wrong.

Also, I'm frozen on analyzing anything beyond this season because of the CBA. There's no real way to move forward with that discussion. I just know that it's probably a good thing that Tony Allen wasn't signed for multiple years and that they have to be very cautious with Perk's extension because it's a delicate issue where you don't want to burn yourself.

Sorry to pee on your pet peeve but I think our chances our zero. I could put some BS percentage like 5% but I would be lying.  I call this a pipedream.  NYC thought the same thing about LeBron and they didn't get him.

It's known that he wants a big media city.  Boston is many things but not a media giant.   We've beat the pants off of him for years seeding resentment.  He has took a lot of heckling from his fans, do you really think he is going to embrace us?  We are cold weather city, not a big draw I am afraid on the weather scale.  Name one big time free agent in his prime that came to the Celtics.  I also think Stern will work his magic and send him to the Fakers.  I don't think Lockout or no these things will change.

Don't get me wrong once players get here they love it.   It's probably the best basketball city in America.   But a lot of guys hate us.  Howard refers to us as " those guys".  We have a rich history that once players get in to it they relish it.  If the truth how Boston opened up so many doors ever got out there I think we'd be held in higher regard but it's not something that is touted much.

I hope we can land him but my heart is telling me otherwise.   I think we are going to have to draft well.  We will have some cash though to throw at people.   I just don't want to see us overpay for mediocre free agents like we did in the Pitino Era.

We've never had decent luck with signings, Posey is the best one in recent memories.   But peeps came here because of the Big Three not the city.   Rondo, while a stud, won't have that draw of free agents in my opinion.

Hope this didn't offend your peeve too much, but I would be glad to meet and satisfy your honor if it did.
