It would have to be a bigger trade.

For example

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=5sl2fl8

Where Houston gets the big man they want and a team like Denver take back less money.  There would have to be a 1st rounder most likely from Boston going to Denver.

The only reason why the Rockets would probably want JO in the deal is so they can buyout the contract and release him and free up a roster spot. JO might retire after that... or at least should cause he's a mess.

There have got to be cheaper / better ways to open up a roster spot though, right?  Also, what incentive is there for JO to agree to a buyout?  I don't think it's likely.

Yeah there is cheaper ways to open up a roster spot and I wouldn't see JO accepting a buyout but I just didn't see why else the Rockets would want him... he's very injury prone and they are already going through that headache with Yao Ming and I just doubt they would put themselves in the same position with another player.

Quis for Terrance Willaims

Expiring contract for talented G/F with athleticism and ability to hit open shots, but hasn't made his way into the rotation yet.

Battier is a long shot. Sorry. Unless we're the 3rd team in a larger deal that lands Houston a big man(Nene or Biedrens) then we won't get Battier. TW fills 2 positions, and maybe we could include Luke and a draft pick so we free up a roster spot for a big man
Can't stop, Rondo!

So...C's need big, athletic 3. Rockets need a 5. And Warriors would like to save $$$...
My favorite trade...money works...
BOS: trade Robinson and first round to Warriors, Daniels and Bradley to Rockets.
BOS: gets Battier and Lee from Rockets
GSW: trade Biendris to Rockets
GSW: gets Jeffries (to be bought out)and Smith from Rockets, Robinson and first round pick from Celtics
HOU: trade Battier and Lee to Celtics, Jeffries and Smith to Warriors
HOU: gets Biendris from Warriors, Daniels (bought out) and Bradley from Celtics
This move also open up a roster spot (for West insurance PG or JO/Shaq insurance big).

RONDO/WEST
ALLEN/LEE/WAFER
PIERCE/BATTIER
GARNETT/DAVIS/JO
PERKINS/SHAQ/JO/ERDEN

After these trade LeBron would cry himself into sleep...

I think Houston loves that..but I think you're really underselling Biedrins value. Boston says absolutely.

It works on ESPN trade machine.
Warriors saves tons of money by trading Biendris, opens up a center spot for David Lee, get a first round pick and Nate who's perfect for run&%gun style...

I'm not sure about this from Houston's perspective.  Biedrins has been great on the boards, but his offense and defense have both been poor, and he has a history of injury issues.  Do the Rockets really want a player like that, especially when he's got three years left on his contract after this one?

I agree that Boston would say deal in this case but Danny would have to try and find another deal just as a safety net for the PG position. West is a good basketball player but we can't forget that he is on a short leash so after trading away both Nate and Bradley you're left with no other back up to Rondo IF something happens to West. I realize that usually teams are short at some positions but this is different cause of West and his "situation".

With Louis Scola polished offensive game Rockets would need a rebounder and shotblocker in center position and Biendris could be a best available guy. As for ours PG solution, we would open a roster spot for some FA third string PG...

First off I love the trade for Boston. Second if this trade were to happen the Celtics are trading 3 for 2 which would leave an open roster space, so danny wouldn't have to make a deal. If for some reason West doesn't work out they could sign a free agent or someone out of the D-league. It's not like Rondo sits that much and when he does Pierce or Ray handle the ball a lot of the time.
And lets face it, neither Nate nor Bradley are really point guards anyway.

I tend to think that we're going to have part with Perk or BBD to get Battier.  I just don't see Houston's motivation otherwise.  He's already expiring, so if they want to clear space, they might as well just hold onto him.

And while some of you have suggested 3 team deals, I'm not convinced anyone is going to really want anything of ours that's not Perk or BBD.

That said, I'd THINK about dealing BBD.  Now, if I was Ainge, I think I'd still ultimately hang onto him.  But to play Devil's Advocate, think about it this way.  Does Doc play BBD at crunch time because BBD is so "clutch" or is because he's merely a fairly good scorer that can make teams pay when they pay attention to the other 4 All Stars on the court?  Before you answer the former, consider James Posey.  Didn't he also have extraordinary success playing with our Big Four?  Hasn't his "clutch" shooting since disappeared?

Ultimately, while I think I'd rather hang on to Baby given the versatility he offers at the 4/5, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that Battier could simply take Baby's role as our closer at the 4 spot and do much of James Posey did here in 2008.  And if he can do that, we won't miss Baby that much.

Still, I think the C's are better off doing a smaller trade for someone else or waiting for a buyout, but if none of that materialized, I'd think about parting with Baby (but certainly not Perk).

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
lol biedrens is possibly the worst basketball player in the NBA.
He is total garbage. He is like luke waltons kid brother except he can rebound now and then.

Good deal for celtics and warriors but rockets don't get much for giving up two guns- so not happening.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

  • Another undersized Celtic...
There's probably one exec in the NBA who is dumb enough to take JO off our hands--Chris Wallace--but I'm sure Jerry West would quit and ask that his likeness be taken out of the NBA logo if it ever happened. I guess there's two if you consider Isiah Thomas is "consulting" for the Knicks.

As far as Rip Hamilton goes, is there a time frame that he can be bought out by, or can that happen anytime during the season? If he's got two years left on his contract, he may have to bite the bullet if he wants an extension or a new deal somewhere else--riding the pine is no way to show that you can still play/contribute. Maybe he will have to lose some cash now to gain some for the future.
