hey this link says that the deal is almost done!  yay!

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/616378-houston-rockets-to-send-shane-battier-to-boston-celtics-done-deal

oh wait, bleacher report, never mind

(yes, this post is laced with sarcasm - just a note reminding folks to consider the source - some sites are more reliable than others)

The trade doesn't even work financially (unless it includes Bradley or someone else, as mentioned in another post).
Celtics fan for life.

The Celtics really need to get this deal done. If Battier can come here he would be more then the perfect fit. If we can unload JO,Bradley and a 2nd round pick and some cash then do it. People are nuts if you wanna trade Perk. But I can imagine Battier sitting in that deadly corner knocking threes down on Rondo's drives and dishes, and on cross the court swing for one corner to the other that we do so well. This deal needs to get done. If we could doing it without giving up Nate I think it would be good because we know nate can score and will play better when West comes back!

I like that he reports JO as an expiring.  Good fact-checking.

In a JO + Bradley deal, you're asking Houston to take on around $6 million in JO's salary next year, with little return for Houston.  Something like that is not going to happen.

I thought JO's was expiring or an opt out clause.

Nope.  Two years, guaranteed.

Without Perk or Davis in the deal, my guess is the discussion involved Danny saying "Please!", Morey laughing, and then changing the subject to scheduling a golf outing after the trade deadline.

I would love to have Battier on the C's, but Houston always looks to "win" in trades, and the C's just have nothing worth it for them unless Perkins, or at least Davis is involved in the deal.

Only chance this happens is if it is a much bigger trade that includes Boston as the third party helping the bigger parts move.

He is absolutely right on this, although listening to Mannix last week on WEEI (I think he was guest host one day), he really turned me off not just with his negativity towards the C's ability to make a trade, but his complete tunnel-vision towards larger trades like this.  All he kept saying was that the C's couldn't make any trade, and he completely ignored the smaller trade possibilities with guys like Daniels as salary filler.

It just came across as a guy who was just playing with the trade machine rather than someone working from inside information.

You got guys here who play with the trade machine all the time and they tell themselves that some of those deals are possible. How does that make Mannix look bad, again?

And, as far as negativity, in that same article, he pointed out that getting Posey for nothing if he was bought out is possible. That's not a good example of Mannnix being negative, either.

The only reason why the Rockets would probably want JO in the deal is so they can buyout the contract and release him and free up a roster spot. JO might retire after that... or at least should cause he's a mess.

You can't include Daniels in a trade because of the reason why we're trying to trade. Battier gets injured and we're in the same boat. I can see them asking for Erden since he seems to have some promise and with Ming down for the count they need size. Maybe they take the deal for JO, Bradley and Erden and a pick... hopefully 2nd round.

I do know that Terrence Williams, formerly from NJ Nets, has said that he either wants to play or wants Rockets to trade him so that might make the Rockets move faster so they can give Terrence some playing time or try to include him in another deal before the deadline.

It doesn't make him look bad per se, I just did not get the impression that he had any inside information about the C's last week, and was only interested in shouting down callers (which I don't completely blame him for, since they had ridiculous ideas), but didn't bring anything to the table himself.

Instead of saying "the C's are looking more at a Rasual Butler or Dahntay Jones type", his message was pretty strongly "the C's have nothing to trade, and are only going to be looking at buyouts".  And I think that is wrong, and came across as lazy to me.

There have got to be cheaper / better ways to open up a roster spot though, right?  Also, what incentive is there for JO to agree to a buyout?  I don't think it's likely.

the only thing I could think of is getting a 3rd team involved (Charlotte?) but the bottom line is it always comes down to "who would want J O'Neal's salary on the books next year?"

also, part of me is holding out hope that JON be able to give us a few minutes off the bench in the playoffs - which could help us defensively - in particular if Shaq keeps getting nicked up
