I was reading this blurb from Peter May that Marquis has the right to veto any trade. Would he really forfeit his Bird rights if we were looking to trade him and accept a trade to a non contender (i.e. Cavaliers)?

I know no one is saying that we will resign him next year anyway since he is injury prone.

Just wondered peoples thoughts.

His salary is relatively low, so I don't think Bird rights are a huge thing in this case.

The real question is whether he will attempt to continue to play, given the [apparent] risk to his health/wellbeing, and whether anyone would sign him.

I don't think it's possible to give him any incentives, is it?  Any reason he might hold out and try to get some concession out of the deal?

Simple put, yes.

Promise him a playoff share and a ring for his services.  Make sure he understand that the Celtics will not be using those Bird rights anyways?  (and who know if they will still exist in the new CBA)

Bingo.  Those incentives are probably what it would take (playoff share at least).  He would be giving up the regular playoff pay, though, wouldn't he, or would the C's have to threaten to keep him off the playoff roster?

I was also thinking about this. I agree with the above points, and also:
-if he's going to be injured and resting, it's not like he'll have to move anywhere.
-he's going to be an FA anyway, and likely wouldn't be back (as pointed out above).
-I think Marquis has an agent, and I doubt he would advise marquis to block a deal just to preserve early bird rights that probably won't be used anyway resulting in just bad blood and a bad reputation as a player/agent who won't play ball.

I didn't know Marquis can veto. In that case, yeah, it was pretty improbable that they can trade him. Not a definite no but it is quite unlikely.

Similar situation to Devean George and the Mavs a few years ago. Marquis' agent will be in his ear advising him to veto.

So does anyone have an update on the process for evaluating Quis at this point?  What about the timeline?

Maybe.  Bird Rights aren't that likely to come into the picture if you're a 30 year old role player coming off of a spinal injury.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler
