That guy had a triple-double last night, though the Eastern Conference All-Stars trailed almost the entire all-star game.

......And that's about as relevent in a no-defense NBA pickup game as it is at a noon pickup game that the YMCA.

The only way the messiah won't win MVP is if injury or something stops him from playing.

Stern might as well name the award after the messiah.

Sigh. Who, in your view, is deserving of the MVP?

I think LeBron will win it.  But I think that Rose deserves it more.

I think D.Rose will win it, and he completely deserves it IMO.

To me, Most Valuable Player means who helps their team the most. LBJ helps the Heat enormously, but they wouldn't be completely lost without him.

Without Rose, Bulls are a lottery team. The Bulls are 2.5 games out of the #1 seed in the East despite them playing most of the season minus Boozer/Noah (I think they've only appeared in like 9 games together this season or something. Not 100% sure, anyone have the exact #?) But they are in position to threaten for the top spot in the East despite some MAJOR absences, and that's because Rose is carrying them night in and night out.

Lebron shouldn't win MVP unless they win 70 games. Everyone was projecting there team to win close to 70 games at the beginning of the year and they are going to end up underachieving with worse records than the Cavs the past 2 years.

In short, with a more talented team Lebron is going to have fewer wins and with worse stats

Rose.

MVP = Most valuable player.

Rose is more valuable to the Bulls then Lebron is to the Heat. He put the Bulls on his back and carried them to 36-15 despite their second and third players missing significant time. I don't think it can be argued that taking Rose off the Bulls is a much bigger hit than taking Lebron off the Heat.

Even though I can't stand the grandstanding and the antics, I don't think anybody is as valuable a player as Garnett to a championship team.

Choosing between Rose and the messiah....I choose Rose.  Rose has carried a team without at least one of it's two best players out most of the year.

Good point about KG's value to the Celtics...

I would certainly vote for Rose, Dirk, or Dwight over LeBron on the heat.

It's not like the Heat haven't had key players injured either (Miller, Haslem). For me, the bottom line is LeBron is clearly the better player in almost every aspect of the game, putting up better numbers on a better team.

Neither player is a starter - and the heatles are 1 loss better than the Bulls, missing starters for over 50 games, with a weaker (although not by much) SOS.

Bottom line for me is he won it 2 years in a row already - and doesn't deserve a third straight.

? What does this year have to do with prior years? The 2011 MVP is based on this year alone. And FWIW, Boozer has played the vast majority of this year, averaging 19/10 on 54% shooting and somehow, the team has been a better defensive team since Noah has been out. It's not that Rose isn't deserving - he's just an inferior player to LeBron on an inferior team.

It should be Lebron and I think at the end of the day it will be Lebron.

He's clearly still the best player in the league and you don't need to look any farther than the Cavs to see how important he is.

Forget Derrick Rose.  As I said in the All-Star Weekend thread, the league MVP should never be an after-thought in the All-Star game.

I'm all for LeBron being the MVP and all, but I think an ASG performance is utterly irrelevant.

I somewhat agree with you on the All-Star game being irrelevant; however, I just have a hard time seeing Derrick Rose as the MVP when he doesn't assert his will and separate himself from the best of his peers in a game designed exactly for that purpose.

Derrick Rose is not the best player in the NBA.  In fact, he's not even in the top 5.  There's no way he should get the MVP award.  If he does, it'll be a stupid and an affront to the developing legitimacy of statistical analysis in basketball (which shows categorically that Rose is not the MVP).
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Rose will only win the MVP if the bulls get the 1st seed in the east.

If Miami finishes 1st it will go to LeBron.

Are the Bulls the inferior team? I mean really. Are the Heat THAT much better than the Bulls? I have serious doubts there, honestly. If the two do in fact meet up in the 2nd round of the playoffs and Noah & Boozer are fully healthy, my money's on Chicago. And that's even if they don't pull off a trade for JR Smith to upgrade their 2 spot.
