All four of them would have won it last year. It was a heck of a performance, and they all deserve a lot of credit for the show they put on tonight.
As for the outcome, I didn't think there was anything wrong with it. I understand that much of the allure of Blake's final dunk was largely theatrics rather than actual dunking prowess, but I can accept that. We're 25 years into this thing. The original, pure-athleticism dunks have already been done - and you could see that, because when Blake put his forearm through the hoop the first thought of many people was "Vince Carter!" even though it was a great dunk and won Vince the contest. In search of originality, contestants are forced to resort to showmanship. That's alright with me. The only one tonight who honestly focused on pure athleticism, free of any gimmicks like extra balls, extra rims, kids with toys, etc... was Demar DeRozan. Answer me honestly... how many of you thought Demar should have won? Because his was the purest basketball performance tonight. He was great, don't get me wrong, and he would have won had he performed like this last year, but he was arguably the worst tonight.
It's only a matter of time before somebody jumps through a flaming hoop and dunks.
