I'd stick Luke at the small forward spot behind Pierce and live with it before I'd give up Semih on that trade.

If you could be sure that Shaq and JO will be reasonably healthy for the playoffs and Quis will not, I'd make the trade.  Otherwise, forget it.  Against any of the other top teams in the playoffs (Lakers, Spurs, Mavs, Heat, Orlando, Bulls), Boston is going to need size more than a back up wing that's better than Wafer.

Mike
I think Doc will go with three bigs before using Semih (rightly so), and I'd rather have a backup for SF/SG beyond wafer.

That's why I said if Shaq and JO are reasonably healthy.

Mike

I think Daniels and the 1st is the most likely offer.

Neither are going to help the Celtics win a title this year anyways.

Agreed.  I would be hesitant to give up the first for Parker, mostly because I think they could get a comparable player for less, but it certainly wouldn't be a deal breaker, since this will likely be a terrible draft, and that pick is not very valuable.

I wouldn't give up Semih for him though.  Semih's value will be going up much more over the next year or two, and Parker is not that much better than guys on the street.

Also, I have no doubts that the Celtics could buy a 1st rounder if there was someone they wanted to get but had no picks.

Daniels and a 1st is fine by me.

No way I'd give up Semih for Anthony Parker. Semih has a ways to go but it is very, very difficult to find a big man who is even as serviceable as Semih is at this point in his career and he's only 24, with one year's experience.

I'd stick Luke at the small forward spot behind Pierce and live with it before I'd give up Semih on that trade.
I think w/ carmelo trade going down we'll see lots of movement.  I think Semih is a backup center NEXT year.  He can run the floor, block shots, good passer, 24 and has proven in practice he can take a beating from the most powerful center ever (shaq).
daniels & a pick or look elsewhere

Exactly.  It is more a principle thing to me.  He just is not worth a first rounder.  But since the draft will likely be so bad this year, might as well get rid of it.  I am sure teams will be selling picks like crazy around the draft, because no one is going to want to give guaranteed contracts to these guys who would be second rounders in most drafts.

Can't give up Semih because the way the Celtics are going he might be the backup center in the playoffs. Who knows?

Doc will use BBD as the backup for both PF/C before he uses Semih all that much in a playoff game against most teams we'll face.

Even if we only have 3 bigs healthy for the playoffs, Semih won't see a second of time then.

I see the point, that Doc will go with a 3 man rotation.  However, against a team like Orlando, we may well need a 4th big man when Perk and BBD inevitably get into foul trouble.

I'd still think about trading Semih though.  I do think that Shaq and JO will be back and at least one of them will be able to give us those 10-15 mpg.

I'd give up Semih for Parker, no problem.  Parker is a legitimate back-up wing (excellent spot-up shooter, good passer/decision maker, decent defender, poor rebounder, unathletic).  Parker is arguably an upgrade on Daniels due to his marksmanship (a more useful trait than Daniels situational post-game).

Semih is a marginal NBA player (below-average rebounder, turnover-prone, mediocre finisher, foul-prone, mediocre defensively, good size and lateral quickness).

I'd be hesitant to give up the 2011 1st rounder though.  I really want us to snatch Kenneth Faried (a combination of young Ben Wallace in terms of athleticism and rebounding and Leon Powe in terms of aggressiveness attacking the rim) in that range.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Semih can't guard Howard though, not credibly.

Plus I do believe one of the O'Neals can give us the 10-15 minutes we'll need at backup C.

Yea, this trade seems OK, although I'm not sure Parker can be easily had for this. And I'm cautious on handing out a 1st for a rental.

To me, Erden should be and probably is off-limits. I do wonder if one of those "15-20 options" Danny says he had includes Erden, but Danny should stay away from that.

I don't see how a team's 6th best big man can be off limits. I know we're injured, but Semih has been Shelden Williams 2.0 production wise.
