A few things:
1. Outlaw has a horrible contract relative to his production. I don't think the Celtics would take him on, since they want to rebuild. Alternately, I don't think the Nets would give up a #1 (at least not their own #1);
2. New Jersey can't take back so many players; rosters are capped at 15.
3. There's no way NJ would waive / buyout BBD. Even if they did, he'd have to pass through waivers, and another team with cap space would pick him up (he's on a very reasonable salary).
Those are the details, but conceptually, I think it's just too much to give up for Murphy, a guy who is going to get bought out.
Tp, Roy. Always value your insight and analysis.
1. I agree that Outlaw's k is onerous. His production in the Swamp is not too good, but he's not exactly thriving under Avery's system there. He's a long athletic wing who can score (esp as a 4th or 5th option)and I believe would thrive in our system. He's only 26, so could be with us for 8 years so could be in our rebuilding plans.
NJ has to fork over a first rounder to make swallowing Outlaw's k palatable to us and gives them much more $$$ flexibility.
2. Nets can dump Drejer, and Uzoh or Ross to make this work roster wise.
3.I agree, giving up Baby would be a steep price to pay for Murphy, and if it came to not being able to get him back, maybe that's a deal-breaker for me. How did the Cav's get Z back last year with no problem after he was bought out?
Even if Murphy gets bought out, there's no guarantee that he comes here. My concern is that Murphy becomes the missing piece in Miami (although they still need a point guard)or in Orlando to replace Gortat or to Dallas to make them even tougher (although Dallas obviously doesn't bother me as much unless they make the finals).
