I am genuinely confused by the shear volume of Lebron James posts and the extreme vitriol he gets on the board.  Don't get me wrong there are plenty of reasons to dislike the guy and he plays for perhaps are biggest threat (at least in the East), but I don't recall there ever being so many posts about a non-Celtic on this board in my life.  There weren't even these many posts or with this much vitriol when Kobe was going through his whole rape case (I realize that was like 3 celtics blogs ago, but I was around then).  I think what bothers me the most about all these posts, is they either make things up (like LBJ chokes all the time) or they are the most nit picky little things in the world (like the one today about Lebron being excited for a teammates pass).  I mean seriously there are plenty of things to dislike about Lebron, but we don't need a new topic every time he says something you disagree with and we certainly don't need a new topic that has almost no bearing in truth.

Seriously, give it a rest already.  I mean Lebron has never spurned the Boston Celtics, to the best of my knowledge he hasn't even said anything negative about the city or the fans, he isn't considered a dirty player, he has never had any legal trouble, he has never even beaten the Celtics in a playoff series, and he has never played for the Celtics hated rival.  I just don't get all the hate and I'm really tired of seeing all these Lebron James posts.  We as Celtic fans should be better then that.

Hmmm...a call for rationality about a person that Celtics fans seem to irrationally hate.

As Jerry Seinfeld might say, "Well good luck with all that..."

There are a incredible amount of threads about Miami and specifically Lebron on these forums.  Personally I find him a fun "villain" type to root against but I'm very happy Lebron exists and think he's great thing for the league.

The man is an incredible basketball player and typically people who are that publicly good at something end up either being loved or disliked greatly by the masses.

While I think this is a general truth, lets not pretend everyone hates LeBron because he's good at something. Michael Buble can sing a tune, but we don't hate him..Joey Chestnut can put back a good amount of dogs, but we don't hate him...people dislike or even hate LeBron for a lot of reasons, and maybe his talent exacerbates that, but LeBron seems to have all the self-awareness and humility of a 2 year old.

Really?

It LeBron, he's given NBA fans plenty of reason not to like him.

As for not disrespecting Boston, have you seen his jersey number and heard why he changed it to that?

He changed it as a way to honor his childhood idol, Jordan.  He changed it to number 6 to honor the birth of his first son (it was the day he was born) and it is why he wanted that number in the Olympics.  Thinking him changing his number to 6 is a slight to Bill or the city of Boston is exactly the lunacy I'm referring to.

The guy has been the face of (arguably) the Celtics greatest conference rival the past 3-4 seasons with Cleveland and now Miami.  Take into consideration 2 playoff series and a multitude of regular season battles and its pretty easy to come up with a reason while Celtics fans would despise the guy.  Celtics fans have seen the guy more than even Kobe.

Add in all the off the court stuff, especially the Decision, that seems to rub people the wrong way and its pretty easy to see why there is a lot of animosity towards Lebron.

Personally, I think he's a heckuva talent that has become the ultimate whipping post on these boards for not all justified reasons.

Let me suggest to you another way to think about it.

There is a little bit of subconscious recoil on the part of basketball fans when it comes to Lebron.  Every one of them knows, on some visceral level, that they could be the next Cleveland.  That's why I think that so many people look for reasons to hate him, and nitpick everything that he does, because to them, he represents betrayal.  I'm not saying it's rational, I'm saying that's how it is.

In that light, Kobe's rape case doesn't even rate.  Really, what does the rabid fan in this league care about the most?

Haha. You can't see the humor in a player who stops wearing a number because a great player wore that number switching to Bill Russell's number? I think lunacy is a bit strong. I mean the guy's always saying stupid things. I'm sure there are bigger knuckleheads in the NBA but those guys aren't worshiped by espn so there's something of a "tree falling in the forest" effect.

I understand why people do not like him, that wasn't the gist or the purpose of this thread.  I don't understand why there are so many threads created about him and why in more then half they are either just flat out making crap up or nit picking the hell out of everything he does.  It is borderline stalker esque.  It just doesn't make any sense to me at all.  If I was going to pick one person in the entire league that would get this kind of attention on this board, I would assume it would be Kobe.  He plays on our hated rival.  He just beat us in the championship.  He is seemingly a much worse human being off the court (don't see any lebron rape trials floating around) and is every bit as arrogant and good as Lebron is.

he may have not did it to slight Boston, but it shows complete ignorance for the game and its history. That in of itself is reason to bash him.

Tell me this, what has he done to make us not bash him?

There are plenty of great players and plenty of great players wore plenty of numbers (Dr. J also wore number 6).  Lebron James only has one basketball hero and that man wore the number 23 and pretty much every basketball fan Lebron's age grew up idolizing and wanting to be Michael Jordan.  He was an entire generations basketball hero, because it was pretty much just him in that generation.
