That asking price is too high. NY needs enough leftover to net Chris Paul. My feeling is, Walsh wants CP and Anthony this season before the deadline.

No way they get both of those guys before the offseason. They don't have the chips to do it.

Curry, Chandler and 2 first rounders for Melo is better than nothing.

Even if Denver bit on that (which I don't think they would, due to Chandler being a restricted free agent), would New Orleans move CP3 for Felton and Gallinari?  I don't think that's a great return, and CP3 has more value since he's not a free agent until 2012.

I agree the deal looks steep. There has been talk that David Stern is going to be trying hard to get the NBA to have "franchise tags" in the new CBA similiar to the NFL. It's Stern's way of trying to stop the "Superfriends" situation in Miami. If that's the case then Denver will just "franchise" Melo and keep him in Denver.

I think it would be wise for the Knicks to get a Melo deal worked out before the summer.

The deal is way too steep, given what other deals are likely out there.  Denver was stupid to not make the Nets deal work, and now they are just going to have to accept that they are not getting anything close to that.
I think Anthony killed that, Denver had finally settled on its price and then it died because Carmelo said no to the extension.

Could they have moved on it faster? Sure, but I don't think it changes the end result.

I doubt the NBA will get any sort of franchise tag.

My guess is they don't want Billups, that's why this proposed deal died.

May not be a franchise tag but Stern will get something to discourage and make it harder for players to do the "Superfriends" scenario. That's a gaurantee IMO.

Yeah, that's my guess, too.  I think Chauncey would be pretty fantastic in D'Antoni's system, though.

I doubt it, I think a tougher salary cap and lower overall player costs are much higher on his priority list.

The players meanwhile have keeping FA open as one of their main goals.

A younger Chauncey maybe. But from what I've seen of him this year I have my doubts.

They certainly couldn't play him as many minutes as Felton currently takes up.

NY is going nowhere right now.

I would be furious if I was a Knick fan.

To steep...hilarious the Knicks are hovering around .500  These players aren't even All-Stars on the Knicks (Felton actually coulda/shoulda/woulda)

Do whatever you have to do get Carmelo, that is a fair asking price IMHO.

Pull the trigger New York...they must be taking advice from Isiah again.

I'm not saying Walsh is going to succeed, but I think that's his (in his mind) realistic goal.

I don't think CP3 this offseason is in his goals, I think he'll be trying to get CP3 next offseason. Until he's in his last year before his opt out, like Melo is now, New Orleans is not going to trade him.

Especially when they look to be a solid playoff team at the moment.

Carmelo has done everything in his power to be on the Knicks THIS year and right now.

He wants to be in NY and have his 65$ ext.  He has held up his end of the deal...now it is NY turn stop holding on to these role players who can be replaced cheaper and get the top of the line talent in Carmelo.

The Knicks camp think he will just sign here anyways we can wait.  Lets play hardball.

Umm if the deal doesnt go down...mark my words Melo will be angry will take his "talents" elsewhere if you watch him walk and you end up with nothing just because you wanted to hold on to a few scrubs... ::)
