I do agree a lot of these guys pretend at being tough.  But most men are cowards when it comes to being tough or fighting and will back out if they can.

I once defended an undersized guy in the army against five dudes while in the US Army.   He was little and five British Marines were tossing him around on the dancefloor.  He was my roomate and in my unit so I stopped it after it had went on for a minute or two and they were taunting him.   I ended up tangling with them on the dance floor.   I swiftly pounded three of them to the ground but they broke us up.   It led to me being asked to leave after I whalloped the bouncer when he grabbed me and split his face open where the eye orbital surrounds the eye with one punch.  The Brits had 11 men waiting for me outside.  Only two men from my unit went out.   I walked away a winner but realized that most people talk tough and act tough are in reality cowards.  Lesson learned don't trust tough talking buddies as most of them will run when the chips are down.  Now I am not your normal man.   I was a bouncer and soldier before this incident and look like a tall de-evolved caveman with long ape like arms.  I am in the 99% in size and strength.

It doesn't matter where your from either.  I once had a guy told me to watch out that he was a Crip.  I laughed and told him he better watch out because there was no one behind him.  He left quicker than heck and would never look me in the eye again.  The quiet guys are the most dangerous most of the time in my experience.

I think KG is clearly a posturer.   I mean these are not some drunken soldiers with an inflated sense of honor.  They have career's dependent on their health.  Most of them are simply acting tough to get cred.

We all played soft last night.  We turnover the ball too much (25 times) and shot like crap.  Against any good team we'd lost.  Perk showed a lot of heart.  I still think he lacks some of the old lift.

In today's NBA you cannot fight. There is no way you can throw a punch and not get suspended for at least 10 games. The league is different now. I think in the 80's KG would be in a scuffle every other night.

Whens the last time you saw a fight in the NBA?

Here's a TP though. If we ever meet in a dark alley just remember I gave you this TP  ;)

I think it's kind of sad that you can't fight anymore. I really think the NBA has become too soft over the years. It's more like ballerina ball then real basketball. It's kind of sad if you ask me.

KG pretends & acts tough but in reality he is soft. KG likes to pick on European guards Rondo's size. Now that his athleticism is gone, mentally he has no confidence in his game any longer. That's why he takes more and more outside shots and rarely posts-ups. Unless if he can overcome the mental block and adapt his game, he should retire soon.

Nolthing like fake tough guys who sit behind their computers ::)

I didn't act tough. I'm being objective and not get blinded being a Celtics fan. The reality is KG is studio gangster.

Is that you, Haslem?
Can't stop, Rondo!

It's funny though what NBA player isn't a studio gangster? Isn't there pretty much just trash talking in the NBA and no real fighting? I guess Gilbert Arenas is a real gangster. So theres that...

I love how people are bashing KG, you call yourselves C's fans?

Without KG this team would be garbage.
I'm not so sure about that. We'd not be a Championship caliber team for sure. But we'd be much better then garbage and would make the playoffs easy.

I don't think KG was soft last night I thought he just played bad, especially offensively. Same with Rondo, Pierce and Baby.I thought those 4 guys played really, really bad. I'm not saying they were making that many poor decisions but it felt like they really couldn't hit a shot at all, everything was a brick.

I was really disappointed in Rondo though. It would have beena good night for him to try and get those 10 free throws that Doc and the team have been talking about. He did it against Howard a few days ago and I was hoping he was going to do it against the lakers.

We were really depleted though and played as bad as we could have so im not too worried about it

KG has had an excellent year on both ends.  Sure, he's lost some athleticism, but he's still one of the best two-way big men in the NBA.  Sure, he's going to struggle from time to time with elite big men like Pau Gasol, but who doesn't?

It was a fairly poor game for KG, but not terrible, other than for a couple of defensive plays and lazy attempts at rebounds.  I wouldn't let one sub-par February performance cause me to lose faith in KG as a player, though.

But I am a bit saddened that, even among his adopted family in Celtic Nation, there are still some…perhaps even many… that just don’t really, fully realize what they’ve had for the past four years.  Enjoy him while you can, folks.  Because once he’s gone, like Larry and Bill before him, there’ll never be another Kevin Garnett walking through those doors.

There are some guys that actually want to do more than run their mouths like KG does.  There are the crazy, loose cannon types like Nate Robinson and Artest.  There are guys like Zaza who made KG run away and punched his own teammate, Josh Smith, in practice.  There were guys like Matt Harpring and Vitaly Potapenko.

I don't think Gilbert's gun makes him tough.  But there are some guys who have more bark than bite, and as much as I love him, I would have to include KG in that category.

So was KG supposed to stay there and get at Zaza, risking a suspension if something happened?

This isn't hockey, the NBA doesn't let people fight. If Zaza starts something with KG and both get sat down for a while that only would help the Hawks (and many other teams).

Get a clue all real tough guys talk about how tough they are on the internet. That's how we know KG isn't tough....

I guess it's all in your definition of "bite".  For an NBA player, I've always taken "bite" to mean what they did on the court, even and especially with regards to backing up trash talk.  But let's take a look at what KG has historically done in retaliation vs what a "tough" guy might have done in scrapes.

1) Anthony Peeler elbowed KG in the neck during Game 6 of the 2004 WCSF. Garnett took a step towards Peeler then stopped, doing nothing but looking at him.

A real "tough guy" like Artest probably levels Peeler, and misses game 7.  An "all bark" guy like KG did nothing but look at the moment, then comes out and explodes all over Peeler's teammates with one of the greatest game 7s in NBA history to carry his team to the next round.  Peeler got to watch from home.

Who won the fight?

2) KG gets into it with Antonio McDyess while defending a teammate in 2007.  When McDyess attempts to escalate it to a real fight, Garnett doesn't oblige.

But coincidentally, every time Garnett faced McDyess for the entire next year he somehow ended up having huge games...you may remember a few of them, since those games were in KG's first year with the Celtics.  For some strange reason, Garnett averaged 24 points and 8.3 free throws drawn against the Pistons that year...seems a tad aggressive for a guy that averaged "only" 18.6 points and 4.6 FTA against every other team that didn't have McDyess as their primary defender on him.

I wonder if there was a connection?

3) One of your listed "tough guys", Zaza Pachulia talks mad trash and headbuts KG in a playoff game.  KG doesn't retaliate on the spot.  A tough guy like Stephen Jackson may have shot ZaZa for such a transgression.

Instead, KG plays a great series and ensures that ZaZa watches the rest of the playoffs from home.  Oh yeah, and as a parting shot KG gives ZaZa a relatively legal hard moving screen under the chin that flattened Zaza.  KG got the foul, then moved on to the next round and eventually a title.  Zaza (and everyone watching) got KG's message very explicitly.  And maybe my mind is blanking, but I don't remember Zaza ever barking or trying another intimidation stunt against the Celtics again...ever.

Bottom line: you can have your NBA tough guys that back up their bark with their fists.  Me?  Give me a basketball player that's smart enough to retaliate where it hurts...on the scoreboard, with any extra given in ways that don't cost his team games.  :Shrugs:  I guess, to each his own.

I dont understand where all this is coming from. KG didnt have a great game but neither did the entier team.

Why are we not calling out ROndo? He for some reason decided he wasnt going to drive like he did in the first half. That killed us. the whole team stood around didn't run their offense.

This title should be "softest i've ever seen BOSTON play".

However, what did people think was going to happen? We were on the verge of getting the beer guy to suit up with all the bodies dropping. PP was sick and we had 0 size outside of perk to go at them. With all these players out/sick/dead, it was amazing that it wasn't a 30 point loss. Honeslty I'd be more concerned if I were a laker fan due to the fact they couldn't put us away only playing against 7 legit guys. Think about that, the defending chumps were almost beaten by our water boys. This says volumes to me about our team, and once we are healthy, we will roll.

I'm confident DA will plug the hole left by Daniels if he cant come back. We will porbably lose Sunday as well, but we cant measure this team from these two games.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

KG was supposed to get suspended for a few playoff games, while the Hawks would lose a nobody backup center for a few games? Good plan...
