Just read a tweet from Pro Basketball talk that the Bulls & Rockets are talking trade: Omer Asik for Courtney Lee.

I think that makes the Bulls a very serious threat in the playoffs.

Certainly give the Bulls a SG they need, Courtney Lee isnt the best option but he will certainly fit in nicely.

I think he's pretty much the prototype for what they need at SG. Athletic defender defender who doesn't need the ball that much and can shoot the long ball. What is there not to like fit-wise?

I'm not sure the Bulls need to make that trade.  Maybe they're happy with their big man rotation (when Noah is back) enough to move Asik but I think it would be a mistake to give up the size here for a guy of Lee's caliber.

He's not what puts them over the top and it creates a bit of a liability in the frontcourt for the Bulls.

If I was CHI, I'd probably pass.

I'd think the Rockets would try and get more for Lee, but who knows. They certainly need some bigs to go forward with.

If it is an actual discussion they were having, they're not having it anymore.

The newspaper reports the Rockets and Bulls have been talking. The Bulls asked Courtney Lee, potentially for Omer Asik, but Morey doesn't want to trade Lee.

I disagree.  They have 96 minutes in Boozer, Noah, Kurt Thomas, and Taj Gibson.  Even if one gets in foul trouble or injured, I still think they can have 96 minutes between the 3 of them.  If there is a desperation situation like key injury + foul trouble, then they can bring in Scal or Johnson for spot minutes.

IMO, the upgrade to Lee for many minutes every game is worth the downgrade of Asik to Scal/Johnson for perhaps a few minutes in desperate situations.

These are two contradictory quotes and this second one doesn't seem to make sense.  Why wouldn't they trade Lee (for the right deal) when they have Kevin Martin as their primary 2.  Most back-up SG are not "untouchable".  I can think of two not so likely scenarios, 1) They think Lee can be a piece to get Carmelo, 2) They are quietly hoping to trade Martin.

This seems like a smart trade to be so maybe all Houston is doing is holding out for Chi to sweeten the pot a little.

For what it's worth, another rumor thaat the Rockets are interested in adding a big.

Quote
The Rockets are motivated to either make a big change to the roster, or a small trade for a center, according to multiple sources. But Houston is waiting for the Carmelo Anthony situation to be resolved before moving forward.

"They will be extremely active," one person involved in talks said. "Daryl (Morey, the Rockets' general manager) is talking to a lot of teams. He feels a lot of pressure to make some changes."

Morey has increased his pursuit of a center with the deadline approaching and Yao Ming's expiring contract, along with some of their talented younger players are being used as bait.

The Nuggets have been much more receptive towards Houston's offers for Nene than they have for Anthony. Denver is far more likely to trade Nene if they also deal Anthony before the deadline.

I think there is a good chance that the Rockets don't value Asik highly going forward. I mean he's probably the least valuable chip the Bulls have to offer short of a second round pick.

I'm starting to wonder if Morey just overvalues his guys a bit, and his success at getting good deals has gone to his head a bit.  The more I look at the Rockets roster, the less I like it.  They really need to make a couple big moves in the next year or so, and I am starting to wonder if Morey is willing to pay the price to make them happen.

Then again, I said the same thing about Danny the summer before the KG and Allen trades...so who knows.

But I do think Asik is a very talented kid, and one of the best young defensive big men around.  To get him for a guy like Courtney Lee, who is solid, but nothing special would be a decent deal IMO.

I think its one of these cases where you shouldn't trade "big for small".

I don't think Houston overrate their own players generally but they certainly overrate Courtney Lee.

He's an 11 minute per game guy on a team that's been in serious big men trouble all year.

I don't see how he's more valuable than a proven glue guy like Lee. You're rating Asik very highly given what he has actually done on the court. Kurt Thomas has played better than he has.
