Tony Allen isn't stupid; he made a smart move. When you get right down to it, this is a guy's career. Team loyalty is good, but not enough to hold onto someone who could make their game (and career) better with some other team.
Awesome play, TA!
Considering he can only get minutes in Memphis due to injuries I have my doubts.
The money difference is/was the only reason to leave the Celtics. I understand that, especially when you're a role player in the NBA, you don't get many chances at contracts.
Its tough to get minutes behind Rudy Gay, who just signed franchise player money, as well as OJ Mayo who is a 23 year old they picked 3rd overall a few years ago and before this year was one of their core building blocks for the future.
Tony Allen is a [dang] good player and I think it suits him well to try and prove that and earn a big contract before its too late. His main problem was he picked the wrong team, with established wings players who were also young.
Also even Danny Ainge said it in an interview. Money was not the reason that Tony left, because the Celts offered him as much or more than the Grizzlies did.
