KG is a great complimentary player (maybe the best ever in that regard), but he is not a #1 guy and never has been.  He always has needed players around with him the killer instinct and stones to hit the big shot.  He got that with Spree and Co. in Minny and now has it with Pierce and Allen in Boston.
I think that's unfair, his offensive game hasn't aged as well so now he needs Pierce/Allen/Rondo. But early in his career he was a dynamic number one offensive option. Excellent shooting, passing, face up, and post game.

Plus I'll add that every time he's had a decent team around him he went far in the playoffs, they put a lot of garbage around him.
He didn't get out of the first round 1 time in 7 seasons.  That says all you really need to know.

It says all you really need to know about the crap team that was put around him. Minny has no idea how to construct a team around its star players.
I am so tired of this one. Are you telling me if you trade Tim Duncan's roster for KG's that KG wins 4 rings and Duncan doesn't get out of the first round 7 times? How about Dirk who is so obviously worse?  How about even Webber for that matter? How about even Shawn Kemp for that matter.   KG didn't get out of the first round for most of a decade so it's gotta be everyone else's fault. It can't possibly be his.

KG got out of the first round 1 time in Minnesota.  If they were always losing to the Lakers or Spurs in the conference finals that would have been one thing, but losing in the first round of the post season for 7 consecutive seasons is quite another.  And in only 1 of those 7 consecutive years did the Wolves even play the team that represented the Western Conference in the Finals (the Spurs in 99).

Oh my God. Oh my God. You can't say that. You're gonna be called a hater and people will show you statistics and tell you to look at the rosters that were around him.

Doc defends KG from the critics.

"I'll just let Alvin talk. He seems to do that well."

rofl

I thought that was funny as well.

...and it's true when he says that anybody who is criticizing KG will take him on their team right now.
Doc looked so excited and convinced in the video.

What was he going to say "Uh actually everyone is right. He is pretty dirty and reckless. I hope the refs never catch on. I hope he doesn't get any retribution"?

This whole "It's magic!" act by Doc is kinda disingenuous.

Oh c'mon...you think Gentry will say no to player like KG on his team? No way.

As I mentioned in another post, the 7 times out in the first round argument doesn't add up to anything.  How do you know he wasn't carrying team's worse than this year's Cleveland squad as far as they could possibly be carried?

How do we know Duncan didn't carry a squad worse than Cleveland's?

As much as I hate to admit it we do know one guy who carried Cleveland.  Lebron. And he did it out of the first round too.

Oh of course Gentry would want KG.

I never said I hated KG. If anything I'm just responding to the hate accusations.

No no no.  The bandaid was great at first. He was bleeding all over the place and returned quickly. He got stitched quickly.

I like KG. He's probably my 4th favorite Celtic or so.  If the band aid is some sort of mind game with the refs I think that's great.

It's just that I think from a neutral point of view we need to recognize that every day in America countless little girls get cut and get stitches and in about 5-7 days they get the stitches out. So I'm kinda wondering why this intensely tough guy is on day 8 or so of this band aid that can be seen from space.

I don't do this to you guys.  Hey man. How come you don't give little girls their due man. Why you gotta hate on little girls man.

I just think it's time to take the band aid off really before the mind game backfires

Eja, I like your sense of humour....but I don't know how to respond to this. Do those little girls that you talk about go back and play a contact heavy sport like basketball immediately after getting the stitches? That comparison is beyond ridiculous.

Well I bet some of them do.  They got girls hockey around here now. hockey man. Tougher than I ever was.

So, 13 year old girls are the toughest, followed by KG, followed by you.

....and you got all this because KG has still got a band-aid a week or so after getting the stitches?
No no no no. First and foremost is Tim Tebow's mom. Then I gotta give props to my 90 year old grandmother who gets a cut on her legs or something and still doesn't wear a bandage for 8 days. Then we get the 13 year old girls. Then we get Tyler Hansbrough. Then we get Paul Pierce. Then Perk. Then KG. Then you.

Haven't you been paying attention?

Sometimes I don't get how KG has a reputation of intensity.  He's a 7 footer who's big go to move his whole career was a jumper. It's a little like saying Toine was intense.

So you can only be intense if you are down low and dunking. That is absurd!
No. I think of Reggie Miller as intense. I think of John Stockton as intense. I mean KG likes what he does.  He plays hard. Plays good defense.  I just think his intensity is tremendously overrated.  What's the difference between his intensity and say Tyler Hansbrough's? Tyler shoots it. Goes to the whole against bigger guys. Tries defense. Does a lot of yelling?  I just think KG's intensity is overrated and always has been

Come on man, are you really comparing KG's intensity to Tyler Hansbrough?

Why you gotta be a Tyler H hater man?  :D

True. I guess I'm being hypocritical because I did say I placed him the Manning category and I guess I've written some bad things about him. Although it was more in comparison to Brady. I did say Kurt Warner is better. I compared KG here to a bunch of hall of famers. Not exactly hate.

Oh well. It's like I always say. Hypocrisy is a good thing

I love having KG on this team, but I don't think it's very hard to understand why he is hated.

Homervision: Oh that was so great! KG is so intense.

Opponentvision: What is this clown doing? what a jerk

Opponentvision: Get this @#! off the court he's not even playing!

Oh and the trash talking... heres what Spike Lee had to say.

So look, I don't like the Celtics, but I respect Doc [Rivers]. Doc's a good friend. You know I love Ray Allen. I hate the Celtics, but look, they've got good guys on that team. I've got friends on that team. Nate’s on the team. But Garnett needs to calm the f--- down. There's no reason he should be cursing at me the way he did the last game. So you can put that in the article. It was disrespectful and I would never do nothing like that to him.

I've heard that KG goes pretty far with the trash talk from someone who has been to a few games sitting courtside. He doesn't pull punches and he aims to hurt. And it seems that it's not directed exlusively at players.

Personally I have no problem with KG doing or saying what he does on the court, but lets not act like it's some big mystery why he's hated.

Don't Quote Spike Lee he has no right to say anything after the shenanigans he pulled this year during a Knicks/Celtics game and the shenanigan in general in the stands. He has no right to call a player out. At least the players are out there playing. Spike Lee is the one that needs to calm down and watch the game.

I think people understand why people would hate him (even though people hate Pierce,Perk, Baby etc prob. just as much). My problem is people acting like this year he is acting differently when he isn't. Just because this stuff is fresh in our mind and it's finally caught up after a a few years of watching him every single night (and for the national audience like 20 or so games a year plus playoffs) doesn't mean that he hasn't been acting this way for a long time
