Tom Brady Wins NFL MVP Award

Unanimous.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was named most valuable player of the NFL today, the Associated Press announced. Brady was a unanimous selection for the award, receiving all 50 first-place votes. The MVP award is the second of Brady's career -- Brady first won the award following his record-breaking 2007 season.

Brady, who led the Patriots to a 14-2 record, had 36 touchdown passes and just four interceptions, althought the season ended in disappointment with a loss to the Jets in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs.

Brady was named the AP Offensive Player of the Year last week.

Other leading contenders for the MVP award included Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, who was named AP Defensive Player of the Year last week.

I think Aaron Rodgers Is Phenomenal.  Right now if i were starting a franchise would i take him above Brady.  Probably, because of his age.

I don't think you can go wrong with either.  Did Brady have a bad game against the Jets, yes.  Did he just complete his most impressive season in the pro's?  In my opinion yes he did.

Is he the reason that the patriots are the Odds on favorite to win the superbowl next year in vegas? yes he is.

Maybe it's the problem with conflating an individual award/accolades with a 50+ person team sport? Or the american trend of overvaluing people based on a "one and done" playoff system that lends itself to highly variable results?

I don't think you have to think that brady is hands down the best qb in football...it's debateable, and Rodgers is an elite fantastic qb. But Brady easily had the better season over the greater sample size; i think it's silly to ignore the bulk of games to focus on a smaller sample when there are so many other variables in play, and any single game can be highly variable.

There's a reason the EPL is the best league at determining who the best team of the season is of any sport.

Brady against the Jets:  29-for-45 (64.4%), 299 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT

Rodgers against the Bears:  17-for-30 (56.7%), 244 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs

I don't think it's fair to judge a QB based upon one mediocre playoff performance.

Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlesberger, Mark Sanchez, and Jay Cutler are all better QB's than Tom Brady because they made it further in the playoffs.  

Tom Brady is the best QB in the NFL. Plain and simple. And I'm a Packers fan.

A few thoughts about everything:

1) This was truly deserved.  Brady and Bellichick absolutely made this team.  Quite frankly, this team shouldn't have won anywhere close to 14 games.  While people are disappointed that they didn't win it all, people should be happy: this was the Pats' rebuilding year.  Wait until next year when everyone has one more year and they have 6 players from the first 3 rounds.  

2) With the Aaron Rodgers talk, quite frankly, in football, the best team doesn't always win.  I'm not saying the Patriots were the best team: I don't think they were.  However, I do think that if the Steelers played the Packers in a 7 game series, the Steelers would likely win.  

That said, I'm happy the Packers won.  I didn't want the modern day Steelers matching the modern day Patriots' 3 titles.  However, football is hardly basketball; the best team very often does not win (see the Patriots beating the Rams in 2001 or the Patriots losing to the Giants in 2007).  So I wouldn't put too much stock in Rodgers 1 Super Bowl win when comparing him to other quarterbacks.

I wonder what Brady could do if he had the WR weapons that Green Bay has instead of the midgets he uses. 



If I was starting a team, I would take Rodgers since he is in the same class as Brady but younger.


But I still believe Brady is the best.  He has an inferior team around him.  (Offensively and defensively)
