On the crucial (second to) last possession last night, did you like the lob to KG?  Obviously, it didn't work out, but was that the right call?  Or was the degree of difficulty too high?

I would have preferred setting a screen and getting Ray open, but I have no major problem with the play call.  However, I don't think a straight alley-oop made a lot of sense, just because it requires such a precise pass.  I liked the lob, but thought that it should have been short of the basket -- like it was in the Philly (?) game -- to give KG a shot of catching and putting the ball up.  Either way, though, it's a hard pass to make from the sideline.

Agree, Roy, that difficult shot was not a good call, imo.

Add together the precision required to make that alley-oop and the final end of game nervousness, and the shot fails.

I felt we were done before the shot was even thrown, though.

I liked the play call a lot.  The play was there, it was just that the execution was off.

It is a tough play, yes, but I think Rondo is capable of making that pass, and the two of them have shown a really good connection on lobs throughout the past few years.

I'm bummed it didn't work, but I really liked the call.

I didn't like the play call, but I'm one of those guys who thinks you should be going with Ray on a last second shot.  I just feel like the chance of success is higher with him shooting.  He's the greatest shooter of all time, let the man take that shot.  Also, he was our best player last night offensively.  Let him keep shooting.
do it

I think a wide open lay up has more chance at success no? I love the play call, there was 2.5 seconds on the clock however so something else could have been drawn up. But this worked perfectly. KG over emphasizes the fact hes coming to the top of the key for the ball, gets a double screen on his way to the basket, and is wide open on his way to the basket. I dont understand how Rondo blows that pass however. All he has to do is throw it any where near the basket and its an easy uncontested layup.

Great play call. Terrible execution by the leagues best passer...

They play that I didnt like the most was Ray's pull up three with 56 seconds left. That could have been the dumbest shot selection I have ever seen, and you never see that coming from Ray. We could have worked the clock down to around 36 seconds and gone up with a better basket. That was just terrible.

I liked it. They got a fantastic look at the rim. An extremely high percentage shot. The pass was just off.

It was an excellent play and I'd be happy to see Doc use it again in the future.

I think our best finisher is always PP.  Alley Oops are always high risk plays that can sometimes suprise the other team.  In this case, KG is a athlete with diminishing athletic skills and older legs.   Was it the right call, it didn't work so obviously not, it had worked you wouldn't be asking that...

I liked the call.

First, it has worked for us in the past in a similar situation.

2nd, if the pass is on, it's by far the highest percetange shot we could get, even if it's a low percentage pass.

I think Rondo connects on that pass more often then he throws it out of bounds.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the play come up again in the playoffs.

Also, KG got himself really open, he catches that it goes into OT....  the fact that he was so open near the hoop makes me think it was the right call even though it didn't work.

It was a ballsy call but I loved the idea.

Poor execution but if that pass is on the mark, we have ourselves a tie ballgame.  It was set up perfectly, the pass was just errant.

Solid play, KG was WIDE open.  Rondo just screwed it up.  It should have been a lower lob so KG could have had the option to come down and then take the inside shot/dunk.  With 2+ on the clock an alley would have given them time for another shot.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

considering the only thing that went wrong was the pass, I think the play was a good one.  The movement to get KG free to get the pass worked very well.  If the pass is a foot lower, KG gets it and gets a chance to put it in or get fouled by Chandler following behind him.

I don't mind it too much. It was a nice play that's worked before, just a poor pass. High risk, high reward. Pierce and Allen were clearly off the majority of the night. I actually would rather have Pierce making the inbounds for that play, as Dallas may expect him to inbound and get it back for the shot. Also, I think he can make that pass as well as Rondo, if not better.

My bigger problem was when we got the ball up a point and Rondo sent it to Allen on a break and he jacked up a three. That was the time to run a play and take time off the clock. Again, Allen wasn't exactly lighting it up last night, so there was no real need for that. There was so much time left as he put it up that even if he made it Dallas would have only been down 4 with 40+ seconds left. Run it down under :30 and get a good shot off (with a chance at an offensive board) or FT's. Allen's shot did none of that.

Yeah, I like the play call ... we've been very successful with it in the past, and it leaves time for a quick second-chance basket if we need it ... most other plays would have used up the entire clock. The problem was not the play-calling, it was the execution, (which was poor). The entire last three minutes or so were poorly executed, and filled with sloppy and careless plays ... this was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

idk...it's easy to say you dont like a call when it doesnt work.  The fact is KG was WIDE open for an easy lay in...Rondo makes that pass 9 times out of 10
