1.  Brandon Roy's health is, at best, a question mark.  Assuming that he misses games, is Josh Childress capable of playing SG as a starter, and can Vasquez handle rotation minutes?
I think Richard Jefferson slides to the two with Wesley Johnson (he'd my choice) or Josh Childress filling in at the three.

TP for any comments on my final roster.

PG- Russell Westbrook
SG- Vince Carter
SF- Kevin Durant
PF- Antawn Jamison
C - DeJuan Blair

Sixth man
SG- Anthony Morrow
C - Josh McRoberts (depends on the play of Blair)

Rest of bench
PG- T.J. Ford
G - Randy Foye
SF- Sonny Weems
PF- Craig Smith
F - Gordon Hayward
C - Cole Aldrich

My biggest concerns are still size and defense, mainly because I don't know if Vince Carter can really keep up with anyone anymore. However, if this becomes a team that becomes very good at help defense and rebounding, I believe it becomes a very solid roster.
St. Louis Bombers (formerly Sacremento Kings)

PG-Tyreke Evans/Avery Bradley/John Lucas III
SG-Nick Young/Rudy Fernandez
SF-Linas Kleiza/MarShon Brooks
PF-Al Harrington/Kenneth Faried/Reggie Evans
 C-Roy Hibbert/Ian Mahinmi/Jason Smith  10.18

Here is Dallas' final roster:

PG: Jarrett Jack/Chris Duhon/Greivis Vasquez
SG: Brandon Roy/Josh Childress/Vasquez
SF: Richard Jefferson/Wes Johnson/Vlad Radmanovic
PF: Dirk Nowitski/Tiago Splitter/Vlad
C: Tyson Chandler/Chris Andersen/Splitter
Big fan of the big men on this squad.

The Dirk-Tyson combination is fantastic. The best big man duo in this Pick II league.

Also, I think Tiago Splitter is best off as a power forward or combo big man rather than an out and out center ... which he has here with Dirk and Tyson. I think that is a great fit for him. A Splitter-Dirk combination would be very effective offensively.

And finally, Chris Andersen, just a wonderful fourth big. Great energy. Good defense. Good rebounder. Lots of hustle. Can play the four or the five.

--------------------------------------------------

Oh, and Radmanovic, as a third stringer combo forward, someone who offers a completely different skill-set to your other big man combinations.

Dallas can stick him at the four alongside Dirk (C) and create a hugely effective offensive lineup or have him play alongside one of your defensive bigs if you just need a shooter while Dirk rests.

Radmanovic is an excellent deep reserve. Can't say enough good things about this pick and his role (as a 11th/12th man) on this roster.

I think this team has nice potential, but I think I'd like it lot better with Mayo and Brand in place of Carter and Jamison.  Vince and Jamison are more talented, but losing Brand pushes Blair to center, and I just don't care for Vince very much (especially on a young team).

I would have liked to see a starting lineup of Westbrook / Morrow / Durant / Blair / Brand (which, coincidentally, is 80% of my Pick 2 starting lineup from last year, at least after Greg Oden went down again.)

That said, I think your team can contend for the playoffs this year, assuming that Vince can adapt to playing off the ball.

Really like this team, Edgar. I remember last Pick 2 draft I had Grant Hill and Ray Allen and people were saying they were too old. Ray has proven, Hill too, that age is just a number and Ray's outside efficiency mixed with Amare's inside game will be deadly.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I posted this in the "Team write-ups" thread (for the full post with cool graphs, look here), but since that's not for discussion purposes, lets hear what you think about it:

New-Look Bucks:

Rotation: Player, (mins)
PG: K Lowry (32), J Bayless (16)
SG: Landry Fields (30), Reggie Williams (10), Deshawn Stevenson (8 )
SF: Paul Pierce (32), Reggie Williams (10), Shawne Williams (8 )
PF: Serge Ibaka (20), Tyler Hansbrough (15), Drew Gooden (13)
C: Andrew Bogut (35), Serge Ibaka (8 ), Omer Asik (5)

Biggest Advantage In The Bucks As a Pick 2 Team:
In a word, AndrewBogut. He's rapidly become in the past 2 seasons the second best defensive center in the NBA, he's a rebounding force (5th among centers getting 20 mins or more a game, 11th in the league), and he leads the league in blocks per game. Any defense centered around Andrew Bogut should be in the top half the league, unless you're starting Andrea Bargnani or something.

Toughest Challenge:
The current Bucks' team is last in the NBA in scoring, with Brandon Jennings being its most potent weapon. Part of that can probably be blamed on Pace (how many possessions a team goes through a game..the Bucks play slow), but the Bucks' pace isn't all that different from Boston's. I knew I had to inject some scoring into the lineup, but nearly all the premier scorers in the league were assigned as keepers. The best scorers left on the board in the first round were either injury concerns (Brandon Roy), or just not that great being a primary scoring option (Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette, Zach Randolph, etc).

Best move:
Trading my first round pick (Josh Smith) and 4th round pick for Paul Pierce and a 5th round pick. My team needed a premier scorer, and a vet leader, and Pierce can offer both. I already had Serge Ibaka to pair with Andrew Bogut by that time, so I didn't feel like Smith's interior disruptive presence really had that high a value to me.

Worst move:
Sigh. Trading Brandon Jennings for a pick in the 2nd round, which I used on Landry Fields. I had my eye on Kyle Lowry, who I knew I could get in the 3rd, and I didn't really like what Jennings was bringing to the table. He's a low % shooter, a poor finisher around the rim, but he's also a guy who can be an explosive scorer. I should've gotten more for him or kept him.

Toughest Draft Pick: My second pick in the second round
I had just traded Brandon Jennings, and was on the clock. I had my eye on Kyle Lowry, but nobody was really talking about him, and I thought he could wait until the 3rd round. I still had hope at that time that I could trade for a true scoring 3 (my first pick was a Josh Smith for Melo swap, but riah went for Stephen Curry instead), so I was looking for a defensively oriented but reliable shooting 2 guard. I was thinking about Arron Afflalo, but I thought he was a little too one-dimensional. I went with Landry Fields, because as a rookie he already plays like an elite role player, he's versatile, he's a good defender, and a good passer, and he's an efficient scorer (4th in true shooting % among SG's). I wonder though if he would've lasted until the 3rd round.

Team Strengths:
Defense and Rebounding) This team is first and foremost a defensive force. The starting 5 is a defensive nightmare, and if it isn't outright the best defensive starting 5 in the draft, it is in the top 3. Andrew Bogut is 1st in the league in blocks per game, and 4th in the league in blocks per 48 mins..one of the 3 guys ahead of him is also on my team Serge Ibaka. On top of that, Kyle Lowry is a very tough nosed defender at the point, and in the top 20 for steals per game, and Landry Fields has proven himself to be a solid defender at the 2, despite playing the 4 in college. Paul Pierce, as we all know, is a very good defender also. off the bench we also have Deshawn Stevenson, who is one of the better defending 2 guards in the league also.

Bogut and Landry Fields are both top 10 rebounders at their positions, while Ibaka and Gooden are also very good rebounders. The anticipated rebounds for the team total of 49 per game would easily lead the league, but that number would drop significantly when actually put to the test. I don't think though that it would fall out of the top 5.

Bawl Movement) While none of my guys are anywhere the level of a Rajon Rondo or Steve Nash, 4 of my 5 starters are good decision makers. Kyle Lowry is a top ten passer by assist ratio, Landry Fields is the second best facilitator in his rookie class, Andrew Bogut is known as a very good passing center, and Paul Pierce, while first and foremost a scorer, is also a gifted passer.

Versatility) While defense is our strong suit, the second unit is absolutely peppered with scorers. Reggie Williams, Tyler Hansbrough, and Drew Gooden are all versatile scorers, all capable of 'creating their own shot' (you know who those air quotes are for!!!). We also have a good mix of inside outside scoring, with Bogut and Gooden being gifted post scorers, Lowry and Pierce both being good at getting to the hoop, athletic finishers in Ibaka, Shawne Williams, and Fields, and good 3pt shooters in Lowry, Pierce, Fields, both Williamses, and Deshawn Stevenson.

Outlook:
I think this team is a 5-7 seed in the Eastern Conference right now. While the scoring won't be the most dangerous in the league, the turnovers and tough shots created by the defense will hopefully compensate for that significantly.

Did I improve the Bucks?:
Yes, I feel I absolutely improved the Bucks. While I don't have the proven scorers the Bucks have in John Salmons, Maggette, and Jennings, I do have high % shooters and versatile young scorers, who all appear to be on the upswing. On top of that I took a Bucks defense that was already good, and made it significantly better with impact players at all 5 starting positions.

I like this team a lot, and one of the things I like best is that they go from just "good" offensively to lethal if you move Amar'e to the 5, Gallo to the 4, and put in Budinger at the 3. Just a very versatile and potent offensive attack.

The one thing I think this team could really use though is another impact player at the 4 or 3. Wilcox is a one trick pony, and when his energy level is flat, he's a no-trick pony..and I don't know about how good Budinger really is. A guy that can play the 3/4 effectively off the bench, like a Jeff Green or even Ryan Gomes would be a huge boon here. Jared Dudley..Jared Dudley would be awesome here.

Size and defense are definitely the most glaring issues here. Any team with Russell Westbrook and Durant is a playoff contender, but you don't have a guy on your roster that can effectively anchor the middle in my mind. Blair is a good player, but he can't D up a Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum..and Jamison is worse. you're going to score very effectively and efficiently, and rebounding shouldn't be a problem either..but I don't know how you're going to keep good scorers out of the paint.

I like this team a lot. I like Jarret Jack next to a healthy Brandon Roy, because Jack is not a guy who needs the ball all the time, and it will allow Roy room to create. I love Dirk here..especially next to the new Richard Jefferson who will provide even more spacing.

I kinda worry that you don't have a sparkplug off the bench in the second unit, and obviously Roy's health..but I really like the team, and Tyson Chandler is having a rejuvinated season, so the sky is the limit here with a healthy Roy.

Well, that completes Folsom Prison.  Overall, I'm pretty happy with how the team fits together:

C:  Haywood / Hayes
PF: P. Gasol / A. Randolph / Tolliver
SF: Batum / J. Jones
SG: Bryant / B. Rush
PG: Billups / Redick / Watson

All of the starters received votes for the All Defense team last year (along with Chuck Hayes).  There's a nice mix of young and old, athleticism and fundamentals, swagger and steadiness.  I'm also happy with the shooting; five guys shoot over 40% from three, with two others who have hit 40% in the past.

Obviously, it's pretty easy to build a team around Kobe and Gasol, but I do think this is probably the best "fake team" I've put together in terms of actually looking and functioning like a team, rather than as a collection of highly talented individuals.

Love Billups in the triangle. Love (well..morally hate) Kobe and Gasol as a pair, especially next to a solid guy like Haywood.

I wonder how Batum does next to Kobe, but that kid has some real talent if he can ever figure it out..and considering what LA did with Trevor Ariza, you have to think it is a possibility that he can turn a corner. I also love JJ Redick off the bench to make sure Gasol has room to work even when Kobe and/or Billups are out. Solid, solid team. Probably the best in the West.

I'll put myself on the block:

Introducing my mom's favorite team

PG: Kirk Hinrich / Toney Douglas
SG: Andre Iguodala / Kyle Korver
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Taj Gibson / Patrick Patterson
C: Demarcus Cousins / Andrea Bargnani / Hasheem Thabeet

IR: Yao Ming

I like my team a lot. Strong offensively, pretty strong defensively - really strong actually, but we could struggle against the elite bigs.

Still I think even now - w/ Cousins going bananas lately - that we could still be an elite team, but as stated before I think we hit a roadblock if we see a "gasol type"

Agree interior defense is your biggest worry, but I love the scoring potential. Cousins has shown he has what it takes to score in the NBA, and Melo is my favorite guy to watch score since tracy mcgrady had knees. He's like Paul Pierce used to be, before he had elite teammates and wasn't over 30.

Iggy next to Carmelo to me is not ideal..kinda like its not ideal to wipe your butt with a $100 bill. Iggy is plenty talented, and he should be a second or third banana on a contender, and that's what he is here. I wish the premier scorer was a 2 guard like Eric Gordon or something to maximize Iggy's talents, but to go back to my $100 bill metaphor, he'll do just fine.

I love Toney Douglas where you have him. He's not a facilitator really, but he's like Nate Robinson, but tougher (and that's saying something..Nate's pretty tough).

Nobody likes Andrea Bargnani. He's becoming the Mo Williams of big men.

Haha.  I learned my lesson, and dealt him for the overwhelmingly popular Zach Randolph.
