I was reading the Laker board and some fans are sick of Gasol and want to trade him and are proposing this trade.  What is the likelihood of them getting this deal or something similar done?  I just hope they don't get anything done before the deadline.  I would love to see them not make it out of the West. 8)

I don't think the Lakers will break up their nucleus. Not when they are the defending Champ.

I do expect them to consider changes in the summer though. If they fail to get to the Finals or fail to put on a strong showing once there (lose in a short series).

I don't think LA makes any small deals either.

Their best shot was Vujacic + a first for a quality role player but they already played that hand in a salary dump.

There isn't much else there in terms of trade assets ... some lateral moves (S.Blake? S.Brown?), maybe, but not major improvements.

The Lakers are who they are going to be come playoff time.

Please do.

Gasol was the Final's MVP.  His inside play is what killed the Celtics.

Agree.

But not only that, but if Bynum should go down again, Gasol fills in at the 5..and with no Gasol they'd be very thin in the front court. I'm not sure that the Lakers front office has faith and confidence that Bynum will stay healthy for the rest of the year.

Yeah, but that was because Perk went down and KG wasn't 100%.  Now Perk and KG are back and Gasol went back into his shell. 8)

He can always come back out in the playoffs.

He can't if he is traded.

Melo is not a good fit with Kobe.  Hopefully they do something stupid like this.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Highly unlikely that the lakers would even do it if that was available (which I doubt).  That's two of their five starters and everyone says how it takes time to learn the triangle (though with Artest leaving his replacement might be a wash since I don't think he's grasped it yet).  With Pau gone they'd have to move Odom into the starting lineup and he is huge for their bench.

I love Melo...But this would be terrible for the Lakers. One of the reasons they are such a good team is that the have the best front court rotation in basketball in Gasol, Bynum, and Odom. The length in the the front court is a huge plus for them against any team. Trading that away to get another guy who puts up big shots? Kobe and Melo would not work together, plus, who then plays Power Forward for the Lakers?

Without Pau Gasol, the Lakers get Zero Titles and the Celtics get one more and perhaps the Magic or Nuggets get one
The beatings will continue until morale improves

I propose Antoine Walker.

Agreed, no way they trade Gasol. Would be better off trading Kobe for Carmelo, but that will never happen.
