Okay so KG is only averaging around 5 boards per game in 27.8 Minutes in his 5 games since his return. One of the best parts about KG's resurgence this year has been his return to his 07-08 rebounding rate which had us in the top teir of defensive rebounding teams early on.

I fear that if he returns to the rebounder that he was last year, we are right back knee deep in board woes for the rest of the year.

It seems like KG is sprinting okay, but I havent seen any real explosiveness from him jumping. Do you all think this is just a mental hurdle or does anyone think this is an ominous sign?

Trying not to be too doomy and gloomy but I was just so thrilled to see KG boarding this year I would be dissappointed if I didnt see it again.

His rebound rate the last five games:

Orlando 19.4
Detroit 12.1
Utah     8.3
Wash     6.6
Clev    15.4

His overall season average is 18.0.

I don't know if I'm really that worried. He's had two good rebounding games, and three poor ones. Its something to watch but its not suprising that he's still recovering somewhat from sitting out for weeks. The Cleveland game his rebounding rate is only 15.4, but that's with a 5 boards in around 18 minuts and getting 30% of available defensivee boards.

like you said how much of this is due to him not logging much minutes? because it seems lately he's not really playing as much as he was prior to the calf injury

and he does seem out of rhythm

It would be nice to see him have a huge rebounding game against the Lakers wouldn't it?

Yikes, the guy is cooling it thats all. We just crossed the halfway mark in the season. Hope he lays low for the remainder of the season. We want him present and accounted for when the real season arrives. So we better keep playing the bench as much as possible. Rotations shrink playoff time.

Rebounding rate is adjusted for pace/minutes.

I thought it was pretty clear he's not 100% yet.  During the ORL game, his first game back, there were 2 or 3 plays where he was wide open and would have elevated and dunked if 100% healthy.  But he jumped lightly for layups.

Notice there haven't been any alley-oop attempts between KG and Rondo which was a common staple prior to the injury.

KG's calf may be a little sore still, but good enough that he can play on it, his minutes are reduced as well, he only played 19 minutes the other night.

Its clear he isnt mentally ready to "go hard" right now, which is understandable, he probably figures he injured it by "going hard all season until he got injured"

So I expect him to be more concered about his health and try not to overwork himself until the playoffs come around.

We are winning right now.   It's always a concern but although he plays PF his game has a lot of SF in it.   He takes a lot of 15-17 jumpers and that takes you out of rebounding range.

Can we please stop beating the rebounding dead horse.  The celtics style and players does not = rebounds  BBBBBUUUUUTTTT!!! It has equaled a buttload of wins.

If we were 10-34 and bad on rebounds I might say its an issue.

WE ARE 34 and freakin 10!! without Perk(except that last game but you get my point).   I'm NOT worried!

I understand your point but it is clearly one of only 2 chinks in the armour (the other being turnovers).

We have a very efficient offense and a top 2 defense in efficiency. So the only way a team has a chance at beating us is if they take a higher volume of shots by getting offensive rebounds and turnovers.

Early in the year we were securing a great percentage of defensive rebounds and I attribute alot of that to KG.

KG actually has a pretty good rebounding night last night even though we got creamed on the offensive glass. He had some clutch boards in the 4th that he really skied for telling me that he has the lift when he needs it. More encouraged after last night.
