I really do feel bad for this guy. He's given the Pistons nine great years, and now even with the proposed three-way Melo deal done, he's still being benched. I've never liked the Pistons, but I've always had a lot of respect for Rip. Unlike a lot of players today, he's not crying to the media or starting any trouble in the locker room. Instead, he's simply kept quiet about the whole thing. I've always seen him as a class A player and person and I think it's really disgraceful how the Detroit organization is doing this to him after all those great years he's given them.

I know he may not be the same player he used to be, but you would think Dumars and the rest of the Pistons front office would show some more respect.

Sorry for the long rant, but I just gotta say hang in there Rip.

So if it was done it wouldnt be called off, correct?



Rip deserves to be playing, especially in the mess that is Detroit. He is still their best or second best player.

Detroit must really want to move him. That seems like the likely reason for benching him.

It sucks he's not getting a lick of playing time, though. Kinda reminds me of the Troy Murphy situation in New Jersey. He's not hurt and should be starting, but instead Jersey isn't playing him whatsoever, and now he's been sent home while they try to trade him. Just seems silly, except in this case Murphy hasn't been with the franchise like Rip has been with the Pistons.

I hope the Pistons trade Rip or play him already because he doesn't deserve this after such service. Not a good move by the Pistons and for no good reason... or at least one they are not sharing.

Rip still has a lot left in the tank, but I feel his game is suffering because of the lack of talent around him and the inconsistent minutes. I love his game and the experience he brings to the table. He would be another guy (along with Pierce & Allen) that we can have out there in late game situations (both for big shots and FT's) and have confidence in to produce. How many SG's would dread facing us and having to chase Allen & Ray around massive screens (Perk, Shaq, etc.) for 48 minutes? How about over a course of a series?

We trade:

JO (easier buyout than Rip)
Robinson (upgrade over Bynum)
Wafer

for

Rip


The roster space allows us to sign Sheed and then we wait the 30 days and re-sign JO. Thus, giving him further time to get his knees right.

I think Rip will be completely rejuvenated if he can play with a real PG.  He has sucked lately, but what do you expect from a catch and shoot guy playing with Rodney Stuckey and the Bynum kid? 

I also think many GM's in the league feel the same way, and there will be some willing to take a chance with him.  I would be really surprised if they do not find a trade for him in the next month. 

Just to throw out a couple destinations:

To Milwaukee for Maggette.

To Philly for Nocioni and Lou Williams.

To Utah for Okur (this is my favorite).

Well in that article they talk about how Shaq and Ray have reached out to him basically to say keep your head up. But of course I am a Celtics fan so I am going to make a mountain out of a mole hill. What if Shaq and Ray are saying hey get a decent buy out with Detroit come here you would be our 6th man right off the bat and we win a ring? Who knows but I really would be excited to see Rip in Green. Wouldn't be a hard change for the offense just run a lot of the same plays we run for Ray. I think if we can get him without giving up core players and BBD lets do it. It seems like we could give them a low ball offer.

Detroit's ownership situation complicates matters. It doesn't look like Joe Dumars is allowed to take back any contracts that last beyond this season. Not unless it's a special player.

So a guy like Corey Maggette or a duo of Nocioni and Lou Williams is probably impossible.

Well, both of those deals would actually save Detroit money, so I think they would be considered.  But I am sure he will hold out for expiring money first.

Mark Stein mentions this in his weekly ranking:

"A second straight road L -- at lowly Washington even with KG back -- generated not-so-surprising rumbles that the C's still dream of luring Sheed out of retirement ... then swiping Rip Hamilton from Detroit via buyout."

Adding Rip to the bench would be great.  He could play the two or the three if needed.
