Rip still has a lot left in the tank, but I feel his game is suffering because of the lack of talent around him and the inconsistent minutes. I love his game and the experience he brings to the table. He would be another guy (along with Pierce & Allen) that we can have out there in late game situations (both for big shots and FT's) and have confidence in to produce. How many SG's would dread facing us and having to chase Allen & Ray around massive screens (Perk, Shaq, etc.) for 48 minutes? How about over a course of a series?

Pipedream...

We trade:

JO (easier buyout than Rip)
Robinson (upgrade over Bynum)
Wafer

for

Rip

The roster space allows us to sign Sheed and then we wait the 30 days and re-sign JO. Thus, giving him further time to get his knees right.

We'll never get RIP b/c Ainge won't pay aging stars a 3 year, but here's an idea if it were possible.

RIP,Maxiell,TMac  =   BBD,Nate,JO,Quis

Rondo,West,Bradley
Ray,Rip,Wafer
Pierce,Tmac
KG,Maxiell,Gody
Perk,SHaq,Semih

I believe that would take us out of the 12 FA running. Plus, Rip is toast these days and his contract is grotesque.

Agree. The ONLY way we get Rip is via buyout.

Mark Stein mentions this in his weekly ranking:

"A second straight road L -- at lowly Washington even with KG back -- generated not-so-surprising rumbles that the C's still dream of luring Sheed out of retirement ... then swiping Rip Hamilton from Detroit via buyout."

Adding Rip to the bench would be great.  He could play the two or the three if needed.

By "rumblings", he means mindless musings at the press table.  This sounds more like baseless speculation than rumor.

Hmm, we'd have to give up two roster spots to get Sheed and Rip. Who would go, Von Wafer and... ?

Either Semih or Gody would have to go. Probably Gody given how he's fallen out of favor at the moment.

Utah and Detroit should make a deal.

Big Al for Rip and a pick.

Improves both teams by balancing out the rosters, and the contract length and amounts are similar.  Detroit offers a pick to balance out the old player for young player differential.

Utah is having tough enough times rebounding now trading for Rip i can't see it improving.
